    Phantom Posts

I swear, that's the first thing I did, search within the forum. I must have fat fingered a word, as it didn't come up. Good advice on the Bing search engine, now dead to me.

    Phantom Posts

I will occasionally run into Canoetripping.net posts when doing searches that, when pursued, cannot be found on the forum. Were they deleted at some point, and a phantom record remains? Is it possible to recover the post?

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

That is troubling, since the person who posted this issue on the Swift FB Group was not alone. There have been a couple of other issues, such as delamination of their epoxy shield that was posted in the Group and then mysteriously deleted. They have a reputation for 'swiftly' making good on...

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

C'mon now, not RTV and not the equivalent of drywall poppets. Riv-nuts and Plus-nuts are industrial grade fasteners, used them alot at Eastman Kodak 30 years ago. Something going on at Swift though. Makes you wonder if the couple of pound weight reduction for carbon gunnels and seat pods is...

Wondered if you caught this over on the Swift FB Group? Jeez.......

2025 Western Pennsylvania Solo Canoe Rendezvous

Not the one in NJ? I've been looking for one because I'm too cheap to spring for a new Mayfly. In the meantime, I'm using a converti-pack, originally built by a home-hobbyist in Buffalo.

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

A concern I raised earlier. I have seen this before on sun-baked hulls, where the epoxy seems to have been 'cooked off'. Some folks apply a new coat of epoxy on the outside if the cloth is not too brittle. I was also concerned that the hull had been stored hanging from the lining holes; over...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

UPDATE: The Spirit II has sold on day 4 of its posting, the Explorer has sold after 6 months. It would appear that the asking prices were 'in ratione' and not too high after all. Perhaps lu22 would share what the final price of the Explorer was?

    Outboard

I have had a couple of the Gamefisher air-cooled 2 stroke outboards over the years, very lightweight (20 pounds) and trouble free. They show up fairly frequently in the used market. No reverse gear, though, you have to spin 'em around.

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

A fascinating perspective to be sure. To answer lu22's question then, and after finding the Facebook Marketplace ads providing price and a hint of the overall condition, Glenn's recommendation is to offer $1000 for the Explorer, I suggested waiting for other opportunities, and the rest of the...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

Me as well. About 8 years ago I paid $1100 for a fiberglass Curtis Ladybug just because I hadn't had one before and wanted to see what all the fuss was about. That was alot 8 years ago, now they are selling for at least that, Kevlar almost $2000!

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

I guess I am confused by the logic. If someone is offering a canoe for sale at $1400 and one believes it is not overpriced, then by offering the buyer $1000, does that not imply that it was thus 'overpriced'? I think the market decides what a fair price is for most things, not really a new...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

I don't believe so. As I said, overpriced by at least a couple of hundred bucks each.

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

One last bit of advice for @lu22: even without benefit of a knowledgeable inspection, I think both canoes are overpriced by a couple of hundred bucks, more so on the Explorer that has been posted on FB North American Canoe Trader since Oct 2024. Since you are somewhere in the Northeast, you...

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

Easy to find, the Explorer is in Saranac Lake (FB Marketplace) for $1400 (and is stored hanging from the lining holes) The Wenonah is in Littleton NH for $1700 with a Redleaf bag, and is stored properly on its gunnels.

Good all around tandem for flatwater and rivers

I think either canoe could suit your needs, and there are tons of reviews to peruse on both; from there on it becomes a matter of personal preference regarding seating etc. But of the two canoes you have pictured, I would opt for the Spirit II, if costs are equal. The Kevlar Flexcore layup...

    Balancing weight and durability

There was a similar discussion regarding relative strengths of composite layups over on the MYCCR forum a couple of weeks ago. Included was a You-tube video from across the pond. Though not a canoe-specific application, some of the scientific impact testing was quite interesting, if one has...
