    Overhead Canoe Storage

I use these type of hoists, work great and are easily handled by one person and I got them for less than $20. I have 7 in my shop and we have about a dozen in the Merrimack/Sanborn shop.

    basalt-innegra

You will be way ahead if you get some peel ply tape to cover your overlap seams, pretty much eliminates the need to sand those seams.

    Coffee

Found these single serving "pour over" coffee packs when I was visiting my daughter in China, since then I got some on Amazon.

    Dogs. Especially canoe dogs

She grew 45 pounds over the winter, it's like starting over but she's getting the hang of it.

    Upgrade and repair

Another thing to think about before you try and sand off all the gelcoat. The chemical reaction between the first layer of fiberglass and the gelcoat causes the the fiberglass to be infused with the pigment from the gelcoat, at least it did using vinyl ester resin in the hundred or so canoes I...

    Registration

In Minnesota you supposedly can't use a Conoe in the state if it isn't registered in its home state if it's supposed to be. Now that MN no longer requires all out of state canoes to either have an outstate license or a MN license I don't know how they would ever know.

Lighten it up with some fun pics

While we're waiting for the snow to melt and the quarantine to end let's just have some fun. Post a pic of your canoe or canoes "sequestered" in for the night at a campsite, no comments just pics. And if you want, start another thread with a different pic topic. Ready, go!

    First paddle of 2020

Not really, most those pics were on a trout stream that usually runs pretty clear but the spring run off is still in full force, we had a bunch of snow on Easter. One of the pics I was out on the main channel of the Mississippi and that can be most any color!

    First paddle of 2020

Jim, your gunflint must be one of the old ones that was actually bent to get the bend! I was using one of those yesterday too. Just sanded off the grips of about ten paddles that will get reoiled this week along with some touch up epoxy on the blades and a fresh coat of varnish. Also sanded...

I just painted the bottom of this 26 year old canoe over the gel coat.

    Upgrade and repair

Merrimack used to offer yellow as a standard color but quit because of cost and weight. The more pigment the heavier the gelcoat. A 17' canoe is going to have 5+ pounds of gelcoat and a yellow one probably even more. Wear a good mask, actually a respirator, if you're going to sand it down.

    First paddle of 2020

Finished painting and oiling the woodwork of my backwaters canoe so I took the pup for a paddle today. It was 70F in so. MN today and canoeing is allowed although you're supposed to stay close to home but no one defines what close means. So I drove a couple of miles and dropped in where the...

    Upgrade and repair

I know that yellow is one of the most expensive colors in gelcoating because it takes a large amount of tint to get the color and that may corelate to less eco friendly. Off white seems to hide the scratches the best.

    Not another canoe build

Guess we'll leave it up to Doug but the rules have always been canoes only, that's one of the things that makes this site so unique.

    Not another canoe build

Someones gotta say it, how does this fit on this site? If we open it up to that other type of paddle craft it will take over........

Show us pictures of your canoe vehicle with boat(s)

Just finished painting the bottom and putting 3 coats of Teak oil on all the woodwork of my 13' Merrimack Osprey, this is my backwater boat. Gonna take the pup and do a bit of paddling and fishing in the backwaters of the ol Mississippi this weekend.
