    Comfort question

Yes you are correct, we both need more canoe time. It was a good trip, other then my poor planning for time. Brother was very comfortable. After 9 hours, I was in agony from sitting in that little Mohawk. I'll post it in trip report. It was a quick over night trip but we had a great time. Roy

    Comfort question

Wow. I didn't expect all this advice. Keeping it level is the way it has to be for now. I've burned thru today, unexpectedly, working on a vehicle. I'll get pictures of the seat setup and post it later. It was the first one I made, and it could be made better. Alan, yes the disastrous time we...

    Comfort question

I have a question and looking for advice. I've got my oldest brother, he's 66, talked into drifting and fishing a small river in his home town. He will be in a Mad River Journey 156, a heavy yet durable canoe. I made larger seats and a back rest for it years ago. The seat is flat with no tilt...

Show us pictures of your canoe vehicle with boat(s)

I guess that's pretty typical for a Subaru.

Stay Out of the Woods in June!

It would be nice if there was a little stick a person could pee on, and if it changed color then see your doctor.

Stay Out of the Woods in June!

Is it a simple blood test for Lyme disease? I've never seen many deer ticks here in TN till the past few years. Dog ticks have always been plentiful. I hate them all.

    Maiden Voyage

I stayed at #5. Most of the boat in sites were reserved, but most people didn't show up. 2 years ago I stayed out on the furthest end of the park. I thought most all sites were nice. Close to the water and not to on top of your neighbors. Lake James is clean looking lake. I didn't see garbage up...

    Maiden Voyage

Took the Raven on its first camping trip to Lake James in North Carolina. Not as prestigious as Boundary Waters or the ADK, but a nice short get away. Loaded at the Launch ready to go. The Raven handled the load very well. Even into a stiff breeze it tracked well and glided along...

    'new' Bell Morningstar

Good looking canoe. Unfortunately I know nothing about how to repair those areas. I look forward to hearing, with pictures of course, about outings and camping trips. Roy

    Time for Epifanes?

Thanks again for the advice. Did a little sanding on the hills Going to run a strip of tape down the center to section it off. I'll let you know. Roy

    Good morning from Maine

Yes it is a nice setup. Do I smell walleye on the grill? I've never had lake trout, yet. Welcome aboard. What's the registration laws like there in Maine? Roy

    Time for Epifanes?

Thanks Alan. I went out this morning and got a fresh can of the gloss Minwax, all I can find around here. Rolled a coat on the one I'm refinishing. First coat looked good outside, and then I moved it in the shop to dry. Not going to comment about how it looked when I rolled it in. What kind of...

    First canoe build

I hope it helps. I used the table saw on my first build, and it did good, but the boards had to have 2 square sides. I used saw mill lumber, very uneven and far from square. All that didn't matter as much with the skil saw method. With a little attention when ripping, the strips were very...

    Time for Epifanes?

Thanks for the advice. I saw the Interlux brand when I was researching yesterday. I used the US Composites resin on the first build. It had a lot of blushing, I scrubbed my butt off with dish detergent and scotch Brite pads. This recent canoe, I used RAKA. Very little to no blushing...

    First canoe build

No sir, it's a 15 amp metabo. I'm live on the cheap stuff, inexpensive stuff I mean.

    Time for Epifanes?

I used a Minwax spar urethrane on my first canoe build, 4 years ago, and it held up very well. But not so on my recent build. I used the same on my Raven, but something is different. I took it out this morning The wind was challenging to say the least, but I bumped a rock coming in. Eh no big...

    First canoe build

I like the skill saw setup also. Not my best look, but it is quick and easy, well other then my trying to get my back to straighten up afterwards. Looking forward to following along. Roy

    Stemless build

Your bow and stern stem forms should be tapered like this I doubled up the stem form thickness and sanded the edges so the strips would lay flat on the edges. I this helps. Roy
