    'new' Bell Morningstar

I haven't noticed Chip saying anything online about changing anything on the Coho. I keep forgetting to try turning around and facing the stern. Next time...

    Snake infested water bodies

I recently found out that Ririe Reservoir in eastern Idaho is heavily infested with rattlesnakes, and they do swim and often attempt to board watercraft (for whatever reason). :D I may have told this story before.... Years ago, I got a real good deal on a nearly new Wenonah Fisherman because...

    Invasive species carried on canoes?

Oregon has a permit, but it's not a sticker. Permit goes with the paddler - not the boat. Thus, I can buy one permit per year and take a different canoe every time I paddle in Oregon. It's a sensible policy. Idaho OTOH requires a $7 sticker on every single canoe. Unless I park some boats for...

    Invasive species carried on canoes?

I go through inspection stations quite often between Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, and Montana. Canoes must not be a serious concern, because they never do more than a cursory examination. At a busy station on the Idaho/Montana border, I asked if they had ever found a contaminated canoe. Their answer...

Where have all the whitewater canoes gone?

Wow! Somebody's been saving this one. New unused Esquif Vertige. https://www.facebook.com/share/15rVmFkJL3/

    Loud wooden pole

But 1' lengths of scrap tubing make components for two of my wood pole shoes. ;) Good idea though. As for the fly fishers..... my experience is that you can't make them happy. I've done everything I can, including using my wood pole or using the paddle as quietly as possible when approaching...

    Loud wooden pole

I've thought about it, but it would kinda defeat the purpose of the aluminum pole by adding weight. By how much, I don't know - but it would be irreversible, and that aluminum tubing ain't cheap.

    Wildfire Smoke

We create our own dust clouds here. It is currently dust storm season in southwest Idaho/eastern Oregon.

    Wildfire Smoke

It's okay. I can still see trees in the distance. ;) This year, during smoke season, I plan to head for the coast. I hope they get those fires under control soon, and without casualties.

Tripping paddle build higher leverage/higher cadence?

    Good thing for me. ;)

    What about a Wenonah Moccasin?

Yeah, much nicer than the one I have here. And with two nice paddles. Kinda funny that it's in the same neighborhood where I found my Dagger Sojourn. So, I pulled the tape off the inside of the crack. It's not terrible. I think it's going to be a pretty easy fix - when I get around to it. Not...

    Bell Traveler III

The whole chart confuses me, now that I can see all of it. Wildfire best at 2 weeks but only better at 1 week. A lot of missing information. If I was near that Traveler, I'd want to test it. Good (not so good) initial stability sounds like it might be fast.

    Bell Traveler III

Upper right corner, there's a ringing endorsement. It's listed in the chart with other solos, but the use recommendations are cut off.

    Bell Traveler III

A search turns up this quote about the Traveler III. Sounds like my kind of canoe. I wouldn't be too quick to lower the price......if I was inclined to sell.

Polar bears play with sled dogs

Yeah, when I've had plenty to eat, I'm calmer and more friendly too. And I'm likely to stick around - but might get very upset if the chuckwagon closes. There's a life lesson somewhere in there. ;)

    Thigh Straps for Seated Canoeing?

BTW - I think that Guide will be the perfect candidate.

    Thigh Straps for Seated Canoeing?

I think it's a good idea, actually. Might be critical where you anchor the ends, but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't help. By coincidence, I happened to spend a long day on the take in the Wildfire today - fishing. I covered about 12 miles, hitting a lot of different known hot spots...

Canoe odyssey just begun from NW-most to SE-most points in USA

He's halfway across Washington today. Video shows him using a double, which is okay with me if it's working for him. ;) And he's discovered the value of bank hugging micro eddies. I can't wait to see how he handles crossing Pend Oreille and going up the Clark Fork.
