Glenn, if I'm not mistaken the thwart ends are mortised into mounting blocks, which are in turn, mounted to the ribs... probably screwed through from the outside of the hull. This may be a Peterborough or English canoe, both Canadian.

Your yoke is looking good! I like the process, but I have to ask.... what's the beaver. Maybe a flap-disc sander on an angle grinder? I see some oddball shapes for carry yokes sometimes but that particular one looks like it will be quite good, especially that vertebrae cutout. Nice job.

Goonstroke, is Ripogenous Stream the same waterway that Google Earth labels as Duck Brook at the west end of Harrington Lake? I see a semi-circular rapid mid-way between Harrington and Rip Lake that perhaps matches your image.

I'll second this. As a solo paddler, being able to let my wife know I'm safe in camp at the end of each day relieves a little bit of her stress, and therefore if she's less anxious... so am I. And, since my plan allows a limited number of messages for the minimum plan I can legitimately avoid...
