POLL: How do you pronounce portage?

A port is both a noun and a verb. "Where is that darn port, I want to port it before it get's dark." After porting Hell Port, I swore I would never port it again.

Kevin Callan: Should parks require mandatory education courses for permits?

I don't think these types of regulations, which I'm in favour of, and try to create and enforce, are the type that we are discussing here. I think the premise of Callan's article is that anyone entering an established park for a wilderness trip should undergo some sort of mandatory training to...

Kevin Callan: Should parks require mandatory education courses for permits?

There are enough rules and regulations in the world, if inexperienced people are an annoyance, stop going where they go. In Canada, get out of the over used parks and go on Crown land or unmaintained waterway parks in the north.

How is Shadow getting along in his new home?

Thanks for the chuckle this morning Mr. Pitt! I am currently living in ball cap central, indeed, I even own a couple. I wonder what it would be like to move to a pony tail bro neighbourhood. I'm probably one of the most liberal minded fellas in the area, and yet the pony tail bros would...

How is Shadow getting along in his new home?

I googled Pender Island, while sitting here amidst the misery of never ending winter. My new snowblower has been tasked with Herculean feats of strength this winter. Every second morning I am outside at 6:30 AM for two hours, Sisyphus himself would not have switched places with me, pointlessly...

    An extra trippy Merlin.

I used to take some flack when I would paint a stripper, red or green. Thanks for taking the pressure off, lol. I do like it quite a lot, it certainly is unique, I can honestly say I have never seen a canoe like it.

Tired of restrictive headnets, try this

Lol, that would be a hoot, especially when the Purple Martin swallow starts attacking our head gear after a couple of wobbly pops.

    Wood Glue versus Epoxy

I've been on the titebond 3 express for a couple of years now. Last year, my students built over 30 paddles with it. this year we are at around 20 more. I ran out in January, and the truck carrying my amazon order must have crashed, because it got lost, so it took me over a month to re-supply...

    Wilderness Express AKA Chestnut Pal

I had thought about doing something like that, but two things deterred me: I'm probably not smart enough to do that, and I wanted to still have the full Pal forms in case I build another full size Pal. It will be interesting to see how it performs. Got the second set of stems glued up today and...

    Wilderness Express AKA Chestnut Pal

Started the Stems for the modified Pal solo. This is the 1/8 inch method, no steaming involved. Outer stem is maple, inner stem cedar. Took them off this afternoon, solid as a rock,no breaks.

Paddles: Shaft Length? Symmetrical vs. Asymmetrical Grip?

I really like an asymmetrical grip in a straight shaft paddle. However, I'm not a switch hitter, I always paddle from one side. I find the flat surface against my palm is a nicer fit, and when turning the grip up for the end of the j stroke, it just feels better. A 57 to 58 inch paddle sounds...

Info on Chivelston, Harris & Harold Lakes outside Wabakimi?

Interesting, do the Wabakimi maps not provided waypoints for ports and campsites? I have a collection of canadian topos 1:50 in digital form somewhere, it will take me a few days to find them, but I'll internet them to you.
