    Millbrook Outrage

Thanks for that info Glenn. I was just out admiring my Outrage. Come on foam! I'm sorry CBoats, net is shut down, but I'm glad it is still available. It has been a valuable resource for WW C1 and OC1 based in info, especially on older and obscure WW canoes. Doug, I have to agree with you...

    Float bag recommendation

I'm not sure if you are looking for an off-the-shelf or custom bags, but I picked up set of Harmony canoe airbags a couple of years ago and they hold air to the point of just a couple of puffs in the hose every few days will keep them firm. If you are looking for some really nice custom made...

    Millbrook Outrage

Thanks, Dirigo. Even on flat water I could tell it is a WAY different machine from the H2Pro. A lot better at play and quick maneuvers, but probably not as good on whitewater tripping rivers with rapids interspersed with long sections flats. Each canoe will have it's own arena. I can't wait to...

    Millbrook Outrage

Your photos in the "Electric Bilge Pump" thread helped convince me that the Outrage should fit me. Thanks for posting those! I have minicell foam on order and I'm looking forward to making the proper outfitting for this one. I will be making knee cups instead of flat pads to help keep the...

    Millbrook Outrage

You are right about about Millbrooks being rare in the southern Appalachians, but it is not unheard of. I missed out on a Shacho a couple of years back in western North Carolina.; didn't get a chance to see it, but it sounded like a fun playboat. Sometime current interests and available canoes...

    Millbrook Outrage

I picked up a used, like-new Millbrook Outrage this week. When I say like new, I mean no scratches or signs of use on the hull and has not even had kneepads glued down. It has the “factory equipped” foam saddle, hip pads, double thigh straps and air bag lacings, but it looks like the previous...

Is it time for an electric bilge pump?

Looks like a great day on the river! I haven't tried a bilge pump yet, but I sure could have used one back in the days in my Perception HD-1, the wettest whitewater canoe that I ever owned or paddled.

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

On-the-water test photos should happen this weekend. I'm really looking forward to finding out how this Outrage handles.

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I took your advice and now have a like new, basically unused (not a single river scratch on the bottom!), factory outfitted Millbrook Outrage of 2020 vintage. I couldn't turn it down. I can't wait to get it on the water this weekend.

    Too cold to paint, so...

Wow, two members making paddles on the same day! I posted mine in the DIY section. Looks like a really nice blank, I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. Great looking old Delta bandsaw too. I'm running a late 1990's 18" Jet Bandsaw.

    My First Paddle

Thanks all! As for the weight, I thinned the blade down perhaps too much and expect it may be a bit delicate. I left it a little thicker at the tip for a bit of strength and abrasion resistance. It balances just above throat, just at the bottom of my lower hand, so I think I got the weight in...

    My First Paddle

I am happy today; I just made my first paddle! Many years ago I had picked up a copy of “Canoe Paddles A Complete Guide to Making Your Own” by Graham Warren and David Gidmark with the intention of learning how to make a paddle. As it often happens, life got in the way and the book sat on the...

New cars: are they as impossible as they seem for cartopping?

Since the stern of most of my canoes is farther back than my bumper, I always figured that it would keep the canoe from sliding backward if the other tie down straps loosened. I still do front and back tiedowns; it does not bother my 2022 Subaru Outback electronics at all. Back in the days of...

    whitewater chain of command

The best way to paddle tandem in whitewater is in two solo canoes! One just follows the other.

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Thanks for the "weight" info, that helped me make up my mind. I also talked to the seller last night and he is right at my weight, so it sounds good. I will probably pick it up next week when our schedules coincide. I've been considering a lightweight whitewater canoe for a while, but...

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Hi Eckilson, I am considering purchasing a used Millbrook Outrage canoe but I am at the upper end of the listed weight range at 180 lbs. I was wondering about how much you weigh and how much credence to put into the published MR weight range. It's about a five hour round trip drive to the...

Northstar Polaris dedicated solo just arrived!

I'll post a photo for you next week when I get back home. It's pretty easy to make: 1. Cut a strip as wide (front to back) as your bar and as long as your bar. I have 70" bars so I cut 2 strips from my 5' mats. 2. Zip-Tie the strip every foot or so to the bar. 3 Cut off loose zip tie ends...

"Drag-ability" of hull material over rocks in river beds and on portages

Drag-ability. A good term. I prefer to have a light boat and portage. If I do drag a heavy canoe, where the ground is smooth enough, I prefer to drag it on my two wheeled cart. If the ground is too rough for the cart and the canoe is too heavy to carry, I would debate on how much I wish to...

    Dressed Out Northstar Phoenix

Lookin' good there Black Fly. I ordered mine with wood gunwales, internal skid plates and kneeling drops on the seat. According to factory specs it should have been around 32 pounds, but I lucked up and on my scales it is 30.1 pounds. I guess that the layup weight can vary a bit.

    What are you reading?

A couple of weeks ago while perusing the stacks at the local Public Library, I ran across a copy of "The Survival of the Bark Canoe" by John McPhee, a story about Vaillancourt's trip in bark canoes, following routes closely following those taken by Thoreau. through the wilds of Maine. It also...
