Hanging or storing a canoe off floor in a garage with vehicles

Timely post. I just had to sell a canoe so I'd have room for a new canoe. Last night, in bed, I was thinking I should take a look at my garage and see if there is a way I could hang one or two of my boats. I've managed to squeeze all my boats in the garage, but it's far from ideal.

    Cliff Jacobson

I probably have most of his books. I've picked up some really good tips from him. One of the best is his advice to put the ground sheet inside the tent and not under it. There are things I don't agree with him on, like his love of tump lines and canoe packs. And I don't know how he fits all his...

Paddles: Tell me about ottertail shape and butternut wood

Maybe I shouldn't even be replying. I have four ottertails, three Fishell and one Oak Orchard, but haven't used any of them yet. The main reasons I bought ottertails are: I thought the long narrow blade would give me better course correction without increased blade area. I wanted to try some of...

    Dream canoe dream rigging

Pretty snazzy. Interesting paddle. Who made it?

    Straight shaft carbon paddle?

This paddle isn't light for a carbon, but seems like it would be pretty hard to find a straight shaft wood paddle that light. Cliff Jacobson seems to think a fine edge is important. That is one reason I went for it. I have an old BB Starlight paddle that has been my go-to stern paddle for...

    Straight shaft carbon paddle?

I just got a Wenonah Black Lite straight shaft. On sale very cheap. Very high quality. A little heavier than some, but that means it's tougher. T-grip. Blade shape is very different from their bent shafts. https://wenonah.com/Items.aspx?id=4 They charge $50 for oversize shipping, but still a...

    Drip covers?

I've been putting sponges under my legs. I'm thinking of ordering a block of open cell foam, from Foat Factory. Wonder what Jonny 5 had to say? There is a place, only a few minutes from my house, that does outdoor gear repair and custom work. They might make me something. I'm reluctant to try...

    Drip covers?

Some pretty clever work. Gives me some ideas. Is that a North Wind 16?

Wenonah Black Lite straight unboxing first impressions.

Finally got the straight shaft. When tandem paddling, I normally use a bent, in the bow, but a straight in the stern. I wanted to upgrade my straight shaft for the North Wind 17 I have on order. I came pretty close to buying a Werner Journey, but then I saw the Black Lite on sale. My quality...

Does waxing the hull make the canoe slower?

The only reason this even came up is because I was recommending the newer Graphene waxes to a friend and even suggested it would make his canoe faster and he replied, via email, that he'd heard that wax made a canoe slower. I found out that Northstar tells you not to use wax because it...

Wenonah Tour Lite elbow unboxing impressions.

The shaft and grip are pretty fat. OK for me, but like I said, maybe a bit fat for smaller hands.

I'm wondering what you consider a well balanced paddle? I mean, where would the balance point be? I would guess the perfect balance point would be about where you put your lower hand so, maybe, one and a half hands above the throat. These Tour Lites balance just above the throat, so not crazy...

Next year I'm going to try, really hard, to get out with the solo canoe a lot more and try different paddles and get a better feel for what I like and don't like. Last summer I was out with my IK a couple times a week and really got a good idea what I like in double blades. I have way more...

I'll have to check the ZRE dealer list, but ZRE is more of a back east thing. There are certainly people in my club that have them, but you see a lot more straight shaft.

Yesterday my Black Lite straight shaft came, only it wasn't a straight shaft. Whoever filled to order put a Black Lite elbow in the box. So, I'm still waiting for the straight. At least Wenonah didn't wait to get the elbow back before shipping the straight.

No pictures. When I say shredded, that probably sounds worse than it is. Just not something you want to see on your best BWCAW paddle.

I'm no longer a young and strong paddler. I was, about thirty years ago. I actually have thought about getting a Greenland paddle. I've paddled with the local seakayak club a few times and a lot of them are Greenalnd enthusiasts. Looking at Gearlab paddles. Kind of expensive.

Wenonah Tour Lite elbow unboxing impressions.

I have two ZRE recreational paddles (had three). They are nice, but the black shows up scratches really bad and the edges get shredded. I think what I may not like about the Oak Orchard paddle is it's got a curved blade so it has a real solid catch. That may sound like a good thing, but I...

Well, I hope you are right and I like the Tour Lite.

I wish I'd paddled with my BB Viper last summer. I'd probably have a better idea about the blades size. Your hubby might have been stronger than me to begin with and, after numerous operations, I'm not the man I used to be or should be at my age. But I've been trying to build myself back up...
