    White Rose Canoe closing

That's a bummer. Had hoped to stop in some day, but it is pretty out of the way for me.

Kevin Callan: Death of the Campfire

To be fair, I was in my backyard, and would only have burned down the neighborhood, not an entire forest.

Kevin Callan: Death of the Campfire

I once built an alcohol stove just to see what all the fuss was about. Lit it, didn't see any flame, stuck my hand over it like an idiot to see if it was burning, burned my hand in the process, and once I'd put the flame out never tried one again. :)

River and Lake Canoe Discussion and Input

Forgot about those. Nova Craft also makes 14' solo Prospector. Was on my list as a possible river boat. https://www.novacraft.com/canoes/prospector/prospector-14-solo/

River and Lake Canoe Discussion and Input

Wenonah Wilderness would fit your needs I think, though they aren't very sexy and don't get much love here. Seat can be adjusted for packboat style, kneeling or sitting; hull should be able to handle your load; and it is a tweener lake/river boat--a little slow for big lakes and a little...

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

I own and paddle both, but only talk about canoes here. I also paddle canoes more often.

NH PBS Paddle thru History series

Watched part 2 last night. A bit of a letdown unfortunately. They start up the Hudson and the next we see they're back at Old Town. Bummer.

Trap Lines North Fans....I've got something cool

Can't speak to books and maps, but with the amount of trash we produce they'll definitely have other physical items.

    Boat Buying

Had a Spirit II in rx for a while, and loved it. Very forgiving hull, and fast enough. No whitewater for us, but it would've worked fine up to easy Class II I suspect as long as playing wasn't on the agenda. No oilcanning with that (not new) boat either. I miss it and would buy another in a...

Night Fears: Worse with Hammocks than Tents?

Started reading "Beaver Land: How One Weird Rodent Made America". First fact that caught my eye was that a beaver can take down a 5" tree in about 3 minutes. I would never have guessed.

Beat me to it. Watched part 1 last night, looking forward to part 2.

Carrying a gun when canoe traveling just because

Three. Those who aren't afraid of guns, but aren't afraid to go out unarmed either. Which is probably the majority in the US. Agree with the keeping it out of sight though.

Another new camping trend - individual tents

In the 80s and earlier sharing a two person tent with a trip partner was normal. Now that I'm older, I solo in a two person tent, although I'd share it with my wife or son if either came along. My wife won't, and my son would probably bring his own set up. I also have a one person tent, but...

    In praise of cheap binoculars.

I"ve got a set of Leitz Trinovids from the 80s, and a newish set of Nikon Accurons, both in 8x40. The Leitzs live by my office window, and the Nikons live by the window overlooking the birdfeeder. I've also got a set of light, cheap something or others that live in various gear bags when I'm...

    Lights for Tripping

Lots of choices here. I've had an original Luci light since before they had to call it "original". Still works fine. https://mpowerd.com/collections/solar-lanterns

    Northern WI wolf attack

I think the point is that what we call "wilderness" today does not look like the natural forests or ecosystems of pre-European North America. For example, most of New England was clearcut in the early 19th century. All the trees you see now are decidedly not old growth.

For Sale 17 Foot Pakcanoe 1997 model made by Scansport, Enfield, NH $1800.

Here's a link to Pakcanoes, including packed size and weight. Things may have changed since 1997, but probably not much and probably in the smaller and lighter direction rather than the larger and heavier direction. https://www.pakboats.com/pakcanoes/

    Review of Rhéaume 16' Explorer

Saw their solo boat, a Rebel, at a nearby outfitters the other day. Looked enticing. If the outfitter has a demo day I might go up and paddle it.

You might be thinking about a chest pack or kit bag. Something like these, although other folks make them as well. https://hillpeoplegear.com/Products/CategoryID/1
