A Stripper and a Composite Copy

Nice score, Jim. I would have pulled that fence a bit further back, to about the centre of the blade.

    Explain Your Screen Name

My dad would call me "chip" when I was quite young, too. Another somewhat less-endearing, French-Canadian handle: 'ti-boute' which roughly translates to "little nub".

    Explain Your Screen Name

Mine's a bit weird. I have an aversion to a large percentage of manmade, woven fabrics. I have yet to meet anyone with the same condition, but from what I've been able to glean, it fits the description of a mild form of "Sensory Processing Disorder". The same sort of thing as when nails are...

    What's your Portage Pace?

I listen to my ticker. If my heart rate starts going up, I keep my pace but take shorter strides. I don't have a heart condition of which I am aware, but otherwise healthy people have succumbed to overexertion. I haven't seen too many paramedics with defibrillators on my ports.

    New tent!

Do let us know what you think. I'm looking at something for a (horrors) drive-in camping/speckled trout trip - probably Quebec's ZEC Collin.

What to use for an inside ground sheet (and how to use it)?

For the slipping issues... I "paint" a strip of seam sealer every 2' across the inside of the tent floor, perpendicular to the sleeping pad's direction.

Socrates: "Know thyself." Me: As a paddler.

We had a hunting and fishing camp in "northern" Quebec (right here: 47.110973990670374, -74.07554793462482, if the reader is interested). We kept a number of vessels, stashed on cross members attached to black spruce trees at several lakes in the area. We had a wood canvas canoe at the main...

    Frying Pans

Hi - Corporal Stick-in-the-mud here. I've packed a frying pan a few times with the intent of cooking up a catch. Turns out they're a jinx - bring a pan and I don't catch fish. But other than that (and the weight and awkwardness of packing), my main reason for no longer bringing them is the...

    Sweater for Life

Not to derail, but I advise against clicking ANY ad for an item that you intend to purchase. In a pure and innocent world, the information that is collected is used to feed you more ads that may be of interest. We don't live in that world. A better option is to TYPE (don't copy and paste the...

Trailers: Tips for Backing Up, Driving, Maintaining?

The long wheel-base of your van isn't helping, either. I'd bet it alone is unforgiving when it comes to making corrections. My dad gets into a lather backing up trailers. He seems to forget that he is also in control of the speed of the vehicle and that there is an option to come to complete...

Cynobacterial Algae, Eurasian Milfoil and Other Icky Vegetation Befouling Lakes

My wife and I did a quick there-and-back trip in AP just after Labour Day - Achray, Stratton, St. Andrews, St. Francis. The put-in on St. Francis is near the (an) outlet and so the murky water did not immediately raise any flags. About 20 strokes in, though, it became apparent that lake was in...

    Essential nonessentials.

    - A chair and bourbon. And I suppose that with enough of the latter, I might be able to make do with just those two things. - Prep H wipes. They are not medicated, but do contain witch hazel - swab the whole deck with those babies. - Thermarest compressible pillow. - UCO candles. Using the...
