How do you edit and upload canoe videos?

I use Vegas movie studio on a windows machine. It will read virtually any file format and out put .mp4 that will upload to youtube. The learning curve may be steep, but I think you can get to the basics in short order. Over time you can add to you skills as you get an idea about what you're...

Solo canoe design recommendation for small paddler

I built a Kite and would just say that 170# might be on the light side for that hull. With just me at 190# and day gear another 20# the canoe is fast and responsive and very light on the water, but gets pushed around a bit by wind and waves. At about 270# the Kite is rock solid and paddles well...

    Mini USB Solar Charging?

There are a lot of variables. Mostly, how much power do you need? and what weight penalty (if there even is one) are you willing to trade for the inconvenience of dealing with solar. I would calculate how many hours of reading I would realistically do on a trip, then make a ballpark estimate of...

    Mini USB Solar Charging?

I would buy a power pack instead of futzing around with solar panels. Just my opinion. Mark

    A lightweight "stand-up-able" solo canoe?

Interesting, the Kite from Green Valley is a great stand upable canoe. Empty or loaded it's no problem to just step in from the shore or scout the river ahead. I was going to suggest this to Glenn but I see this is an old thread. Mark

    Minn 3 Rebuild

Wow, I'm feeling for you Clint. So, it's got to be one of two things, either the surface or the epoxy. Did you say earlier what type of epoxy you used, and its age? I wonder if you somehow got the mixture bad on one batch. Too much hardener??? I accidently used 2 parts hardener to 1 part resin...

    Minn 3 Rebuild

Nice work. It will be good for another 20 years of use when you're done. Mark

    Minn 3 Rebuild

If you want to use what you have, which I totally understand, then I would do multiple overlapping layers of the 4 oz. instead. Mark

    Minn 3 Rebuild

Hi Clint, I don’t think you should bother with the 18oz fiberglass. It will leave too much of an edge that has to be faired. If you are going to put a new layer of 4pz on the bottom get s-glass, and use it for any patches on the outside prior to the full sheet. If the hull has soft spots, they...

Kruger Sea Wind spray cover help?

According to my build thread, the rib dimensions I gave above are the same as a Kruger. Mark

Kruger Sea Wind spray cover help?

I forgot to mention that the ribs are 3/4" wide and 1/8" thick aluminum strap, which are the same as Verlen Kruger made them.

Kruger Sea Wind spray cover help?

Hi Bryan. If I can get access to my friends real sea wind I'll reply here with the lengths of the 3 ribs. I made my cedar strip sea wind similar to the real thing, but I can't remember if I altered the lengths or locations of the ribs. I think they're the same since I used his spray skirt as a...

    Kite build

Yes on the fillet. It's in the instructions for building that type of tumblehome. I originally had a pedestal seat but changed to a hung seat cause I like to kneel half the time. I'm nowhere near 240#, but i can't see needing any extra reinforcement.

    Kite build

I agree. Glassing and fill coats around that knuckle were more difficult. Make sure and round off that edge since the glass won’t lay down if it’s sharp. Mark

Freighter: 6ft waves safe and dry, cruise speed 30 mph in flats, minimum load cap 1500 lb

Roughly 15 years ago I made a few annual trips to Baffin Island to install and maintain weather stations in the vicinity of Clyde River. The Inuit of Clyde River use these Nor-west freighters on the ocean, and routinely travel between the village and their hunting/fishing camps during the short...

Big kevlar canoe repairs and new (to me) bias cut peel ply

Bias cut peel ply.........not! I took a close look and here's a picture of the weave. I tried to get a piece to form around a canoe stem, and even though it goes a little ways, it's not as good as cutting peel ply on the bias. Having said that, this stuff conforms great to the minor features...

Big kevlar canoe repairs and new (to me) bias cut peel ply

I assume it's bias woven because of how it behaves. I had no idea until I put it on the next patch, it was then I realized it would just conform to the ribs and foam core. I was quite excited at the time, whooping and hollering. I was initially concerned because the new peel ply seemed a little...

Big kevlar canoe repairs and new (to me) bias cut peel ply

It's really fast, even loaded with lots of gear. It's a bit strange to have your paddling partner that far away.

Big kevlar canoe repairs and new (to me) bias cut peel ply

It seems to release like the green stuff I've used in the past. I just did a big area on the bottom, an area of roughly 70 x 30 inches. It was still a little green and I really had to put my weight into it. Mark
