    Pemican

https://www.shtfpreparedness.com/homemade-pemmican-recipe/ Here is a recipie I stole from the internet. It is good in explaining the how tos. I always used ground venison in mine. After cooking the meat, I would use a strainer to wash off any left over fat, then dehydrate until it was like...

Show us pictures of your canoe vehicle with boat(s)

Sharp looking truck Robin … reminds me of my old Chevy C20 … wood bed with split rims. Oh the adventures I had in that old truck. Shinning times. Mine was older, 1969. Your 1983 brings back fond memories … good picture 😉👍

    Skillet Cornbread

Here is video on hot water cornbread. I would make a much smaller batch and use lard rather than corn oil. Also - it is a little over detailed as he is making them in his kitchen vs on a skillet in the bush - the principal is the same. Bob.

    Cooking Fish

I have mentioned before I travel solo so I have no worry of what the rest may think as I am alone. As long as my dog Jake is ok with it, we are good. I seldom fry my fish and never grill it. Like scratchypants mentioned several posts ago, I boil my fish. Walleye boil well, and Jake loves the...

    Food Staple Trail Cooking

I have been wondering, does anyone make buckwheat pancakes or use this flour for a heartier Bannock in the back country? As a young boy, I used to love using this flour to make very hearty pancakes. It has been a very long time since I experimented with making them in the bush, or making a...

Twig Stoves: Experiences, Opinions and Pictures

Sweeper, I have always been a little curious about the Kelly Kettle, and not until I looked again at your pictures did I realize they did more than boil water. Do you use the "hobo stove" or the pot stand often to cook meals, or primarily just use the kettle to boil water. I guess there...

Twig Stoves: Experiences, Opinions and Pictures

Glenn, Could not find the pics I was looking for so I took 3 off my deck today. This is a 1 quart pot, and a solo stove - the smallest one. It is great, but most of my trips I take the next size up. It does a much better job - cooks faster, makes coffee way faster so when I cant decide...

Twig Stoves: Experiences, Opinions and Pictures

Oops Glenn, in the picture post, I have not included a picture of the cook pot the stove nests in. I will see if I can find one. Bob

Twig Stoves: Experiences, Opinions and Pictures

Not really Glenn. The top of the stove that supports your pot, is removed, flipped upside down and nests inside the burner. Your alcohol stove will fit inside as well. I put the stove inside my cooking pot so that helps to reduce pack volume, but it does not really disassemble. Bob.

Twig Stoves: Experiences, Opinions and Pictures

Here are some picks of my solo stove - very efficient, does not scorch the Earth, but is a little heavy . Also - works well with an alcohol stove - great for fire bans if not wanting to use a gas stove.

Twig Stoves: Experiences, Opinions and Pictures

Alan, great post! The first pics are of a littlbug, maybe a littlbug Jr.? It is a tremendous stove, I have used both a lot. Robin here trips with one and has many pictures of it in use. Glenn, I use a solo stove now. I use this stove now because it does not scorch the ground beneath it and...

    Food Staple Trail Cooking

Calories seem to be most important item for me on a trip. Regular food seems to give me energy more so than pre-made offerings … So, regular food like those carried in the olden days for me include eggs … although in a plastic container to protect against breakage. Bannock true, but cooked in...
