    Gunwale padding?

If you really feel the need try clear vinyl tubing from your hardware store. Slit an it will hold onto the gunnel nicely.

2023 Collinsville Canoe Fall Sale, 9/16

Said I would never pay for a demo day but I will now retract that. Love the idea of it going to a charity. Kudos to Collinsville, other retailers please take note.

Hello from Upper Michigan Lake Michigan shore

Welcome! You live in one of my fave areas…the UP! So pretty! Enjoy your return to paddling. This site is a wealth of good info from good people. Glad to have you aboard. Edit: guess I misread your post as being in the UP….but any part of Michigan is great!

    Curiosity and a Derelict Canoe

Campfire Grill in Flatrock NC has a nice OT WC hanging in the restaurant. Not really canoe country (but there are some paddling opportunities around). (Couldn’t see serial number for ID.)

Waterproof Speaker - Say It Isn't So

Probably originally intended for the beach goers. Those things are nearly as aggravating there as they are in the back country. And there are often multiples going at once.

Help choosing my next used solo...

Agree with pricing advice from M. No experience with the Fox but I would take the Indy over the Slipper…newer design, room for camping gear, better performance. If you can portage the weight that would be my choice. Of course it depends on your size and weight. If you are short and light the...

    Shockwave vs NS Magic

Have paddled both. magic may turn a bit better as hull design allows it to be be heeled further than shockwave with more confidence; however it is not built for turning as much as covering miles like…the shock. as with any straight keeled hull, heel away from the direction of the turn in both...

Pricing on a used Solo Merlin II or Hemlock Peregrine

Had a Solitude decades ago and I doubt you will like it after a ride in that Spitfire. Analogy: it will be like driving a pickup truck after driving a Ferrari. If you like the Spitfire but want something longer try a Rapidfire. Will be interested to hear your impressions/comparisons of the...

    Help identifying Wenonah Adirondack

Any canoe should be landed parallel to the shore and stepped out of before contacting ground. So no matter the material, yes, you can land on gravel shores if you do it properly. It’s called a wet foot exit. A pic might help ID the material. Good luck!
