Cold handle frying pans, they’re still out there.

So for the rest of us standing with cold empty pans outside the fire's warm glow, what is that breakfast?

Wisconsin Canoe Heritage Museum Tour Videos

We're spending a long weekend next summer in Wisconsin. It would be a shame to miss this museum on our travels. Thanks Glenn.

Check out these beautifully done Algonquin Park maps

It's always a challenge to load a map with lots of all the right data without cluttering it up. I like the POI Jeff includes on many of his maps. Distances are handy too. I didn't know Maps By Jeff is available on Avenza, I'll have to check that out. Thanks Gerard.

    2023 Fund Drive Now On

Hate to skew with the thread count tabulations Glenn but several thousand of those hits were me checking that my envelope arrived safely. Gladdened to see the fundraiser is a success. All credit to you. Thanks for your leadership/stewardship.

    2023 Fund Drive Now On

My/Your Ulysses S. Grant is in the hands of the Postal Service. All we can do is wait, hope, and plan for a better tomorrow.

    Snow, where you are?

On our departure from North Bay way back in early October (Thanks giving) we were met with a storybook landscape of vibrant trees dressed in flamboyant foliage with snowclad feet. I could've, should've stopped to take a pic, but didn't. We cruised slowly south, trying as we always do to make...

PayPal and I have parted ways, mostly because I can't remember how to use it and it doesn't remember me, but no problem. Donation is in the mail Glenn.

    Happy National………Day

I celebrated Samhain in a mild modern way, sitting on our sons porch doling out handfuls of candy, complimenting kids on their crazy costumes. During lulls in the waves of ghouls and princesses pouring up the sidewalk I retired to the couch and sipped mulled cider, with a splash of Scotch my son...

    What is an adventure?

What is adventure? I'm not sure how to define it precisely, but I know the feeling. It comes in all shapes, sizes, and places. The clock has been ticking and the countdown nearly run its course, nearly nine months ago. Our youngest daughter is the only child of ours who along with her partner...

Steel River loop- Cheating the Devil

Never again apologize for posting "too many photos" Gamma. They are all appreciated. As for trying to capture the severity of the paddling conditions, we all can agree that 2 dimensional screen shots can never do justice to the real 3 dimensional experience. It's always a "you had to be there"...

    Cree River Summer 2023

I'm following and feeling a little tense, waiting to see if the weather settles down and you settle into a tripping rhythm. I can stand a lot of foul weather but wind is the worst.

Steel River loop- Cheating the Devil

Portages have always been one of my favourite things (to complain about). But what has really put me off the Steel Loop idea wasn't the Diablo but log jammed river sections (according to some trip reports I'd read). I'll patiently wait and see how your trip goes and wish you well.

Fun With MS Bing Image Creator AI

Not meaning to be a thread killer but lately I've followed a few news articles describing AI plagiarizing literature. It's not a stretch to imagine how far this technology can go into the art world. But I doubt we have anything to worry about here. Somehow I think Mem and his wanker moose is...

Fibbing To Your Spouse About Canoe Stuff

We're all walking different paths in the same forest. We married young. Despite the fear-mongers and advice-givers it always seemed right to us. Still does after 45 years. I could prattle on about marriage, secrets, convenience, and freedoms but I won't. Our relationship starts and ends with...

What do you drink on a trip?

Most trips in front of the fire I lift a cup to the stars and toast those family and friends who've travelled life before us and have left memories. I resolve next year to toast those still among us, who thru humble and simple ways have made positive impressions upon our lives. Good people...

Inukshuks, Cairns or Rock Piles: What to Do or Not Do?

To my way of thinking (get off my lawn) spray paint tagging, tree carving, and rock pile playing are the original forms of taking everlasting selfies long before cell phones fell into our virtual laps and lives. So much and yet so little has changed. For some reason or another some people still...

    Sleeping pad?

I moved from a closed cell pad to a self inflating Thermarest, and finally to an inflating NeoAir. This last mattress was second hand and in excellent condition, but it lacked the inflating bag and nipple, so I just puffed to inflate. Lately I have been using an inexpensive little rechargeable...
