    Ein bisschen German freesyle

Wonder what a Swift canoe costs in Germany?

Double blade paddle . . . worth it?

The real question is why would I do that? I have no interest in the double blade. Sure, I went to the dark side when I was young, I had a river running kayak, used it for a year or two then traded it for two cases of Alexander Keith's Pale Ale. I have a pretty loose moral compass in most...

What do you think about the idea of having vendor forums?

I frequent a large firearms forum. The vender forum is quite heavily populated. New posts in the vender forum also show up when one clicks on the general "new posts" icon. I know you mention it is not paid advertising, but on this particular site, vendors pay to be hosted. Generally...

    A Raven from Scratch

Looks great! I'd skip the float tanks. Not necessary, and every little bit will contribute to a hull that will probably be on the heavy side just due to the size.

    Peeing in one’s canoeing shorts

Beaver, Porcupines, Bears, Caribou, birds, fish, Moose all sh1t in the woods and sometimes in the river because they are innocent beasts of the forest, devoid of human sensibilities. A thousand or so humans congregated in a small area, swilling beer and voiding into the river should know better...

The New Swift/DY Redesign of the Dragonfly

Interesting, looking a lot like J Winter's Raven, with a little less rocker. I'd probably like it, and if I my kidneys were still good enough to sell, I'd probably be able to buy one.

    Peeing in one’s canoeing shorts

I took some white water training on the French River. IN one weekend, there were more people camped in my immediate vicinity then there were living in my town. Over the course of the first night, I saw dozens of people leaking it in the river, the same river we were filtering our water from...

    A Raven from Scratch

I've only built stemless once, so don't have a ready suggestion for you, maybe Jim will chime in. Looking forward to seeing that hull once it is glassed, our tamarack up here has a lot of dark orange hues, the epoxy should make the colours pop. Are you going to use cherry for trim? Just...

    Peeing in one’s canoeing shorts

Perhaps she was a urophiliac who was hoping someone would consolidate Pierre Berton's famous quotation with her, and finally make her a true Canadian.

    Winter Accessories

I find if I'm snowshoeing, I don't need much real winter stuff. Even at -30, I'm usually in a pair of wool pants with long johns and a wool jacket type thing with a sweater underneath. I usually have a thin pair of wool gloves under a budget pair of leather mitts, the kind with no liner that...

    A Raven from Scratch

Tamarack looks great! One thing slipped my mind...all of Martin's plans come with the idea that you will be using internal and external stems. I can't remember, been a while, but did he also include a line for a stemless build? With my new method of building stems from 1/8 inch laminated...

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

Here's the OG, full Gangsta style, on Marshall Lake with us a few years ago. It's a No Kayak Zone, double stick at your own peril!

    A Raven from Scratch

Not sure if I have mentioned it before, but Tamarac is universally despised up here as anything other than firewood, and even then it is approached with caution, as it burns so hot due to its resinous nature. It is well known for its inability to dry in a straight line, and it is very difficult...

River and Lake Canoe Discussion and Input

Forgot about the Clipper Caribou. My buddy has one and is a big guy and carries big load like me. He also uses the double blade in it and he moves along fine. It's a high capacity canoe, and if I recall, the price wasn't a second mortgage.

Fly rod and Rod tube winter project

I haven't been a serious fly fisher for over 30 years. I'd like to start again, still have all my fly tying stuff. Nice job on the case, but I have to ask some questions about the rod. Has there been a shift in the thinking about fly rods, or have i always just been a knuckle head? Back in...

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

Most long term Canoetripping members know my opinion on the Devil's craft. I'll keep it short so as not to offend to many, but when I see the Dirty Double Blade, I throw Holy Water on it and hope that it melts. Same for the plastic hotdog with a hole in the middle.

River and Lake Canoe Discussion and Input

I would seriously consider Gamma's suggestion about building a stripper. The one he is currently building is designed exactly for the situations you have described. It's also a solo that can handle bigger people and a load. Last serious trip I did with mine, I was around 230, and carried...
