    The new Swift Cirrus canoe

No canoe at Canoecopis, just the wood plug. Looks interesting. Maybe production models by June. Tariffs have them concerned.

    Paddlefest

I have not committed to it yet but if I do, maybe we can meet for lunch.

    Which Canoe For Summer Solo?

I own a Swift Prospector 14 Pack. Quite stable. I don't do any white water. Adirondack streams around me, Osewegatchie, similar. Huge capacity: last year 2 large packs, a not very compact chair, a small pac, and a cooler. (NFCT work weekend) If you're up my way, I'd be pleased to let you try it.

    Paddlefest

I see Mountainman has announced Paddle fest 2025. May 16 to 18 in Old Forge. Might just go down, find someplace to camp, and look at gear.

    Canoecopia 2025

I'll get there Thursday and probably be there full time. I mostly go for the sessions. Over 15+ years haven't bought but 10 items, of course last 5 constrained by air travel. New restaurant last year - Liberty Station - ate there twice. BBQ. I also like Off Broadway Drafthouse. Honestly...

    Which Canoe For Summer Solo?

Where's your solo? I prefer my Tranquility in BWCA - mostly lakes and some big - and Swift Prospector in ADK streams and small waters. I'm doing a stretch of NFCT from Saranac to Eight between work weekends and it seems more like broad flat water, so thinking Tranq.

    Canoecopia 2025

There's usually been 2 or 3 sessions.a year on inclusivity. I've thought they were pretty good. Chicago Adventure Therapy has presented several times. Good stuff. I support them.

    National Boy Scouts Day

I think it's a great program! My dad was in scouting - still have his badges and handbook (2st edition) - Star around 1924. I joined Club Scouts in 1959 I think, stayed till around 1970. Life. Staff on year (Camp Woodlands in Constantia). Both my sons did whole thing Vind through 18 or 19 -...

I'm guessing they'll have one at Canoecopia.

    The new Swift Cirrus canoe

This looks interesting. Stability of their prospector and efficiency of their Keewaydin.

    CCS Lean Stove Jack Mod

It's a cloudy memory but I seem to recall Dan Cooke discussing this years ago and that he had done one. Deep in bwca.com iirc

    Hornbeck canoes expanding

They are exhibiting at Canoecopia this year.

New Swift Tandem - Lavieille 17-6

Agree feels undersized, since most 3 person canoes are 18-6 to 29-6. I see lots of people asking about 3 person canoes. The BWCA 9 limit I believe was as a result of the Scouts lobbying for it. I think the original Wilderness legislation or plan was for less - maybe 6. Scouts do 9 people 3...

Kevin Callan: Death of the Campfire

Does that make the Canadians even crazier since the they just let the forest fires burn?

Kayak vs Canoe - Your Personal Pros and Cons

Canoer because I like the camping but have begun to think having a kayak for some day trips in rocky Adirondack streams would make sense. One that can take a beating.

River and Lake Canoe Discussion and Input

I have a Swift Prospector 14 Pack, also on the side side, and no problem with double blade. Helps I'm 6-1. The beefy kevlar layups are tough, but they'll never be as tough as Royalex or T-Formax. I could never be comfortable dragging a heavily loaded kevlar canoe over rocks. I'd feel compelled...

    Klamath River

Just wanted to share an article on removing the dams along the Klamath River. Warning - long. But interesting. Now will go try to find if it's canoeable. https://hakaimagazine.com/features/the-other-side-of-the-worlds-largest-dam-removal/

Kevin Callan: Death of the Campfire

Perhaps I've lost track but during BWCAW fire bans, a stove has to have a valve so it can be turned off. Stick stoves, Kelly kettles, etc. not allowed. Some question if alcohol stoves that just have a cap are even permitted in a fire ban.

Another new camping trend - individual tents

I've usually shared a 3 person tent with another. Often one of my sons, but a few times with clients I've invited. Shared tent with other adult leader at Philmont. Just seems like logical weight savings and leaves less trace.
