I agree, I shortened a cherry otter to use with my sub-50 inch pack canoe paddles and it is perfect for lazy trips in the Hornbeck NT. It may take me a while to get somewhere, but my joints don't hurt when I arrive.
Conk, I appreciate that you radius the inside edges of the seat frame, an additional step that is apparently lost on Ed's contour bucket. Do you keep an inventory at Dave Curtis' shop or will I need to order as well (I am 10 miles away)?
Are you getting any fuzzing on the sanded hull area around the hole? I see you have the Wenonah decal taped off on the other (Prism?) Wenonah in the garage. Were you planning on spar varnishing both boats after you are done?
I just finished one for the Pack, had to put a 5 degree angle on the clamping surface to match up with the angle on the gunnels and cut a few pieces of thin foam rubber off my wife-s yoga pad and bonded them on to reduce slippage. Experimenting with pads, never really happy with any I've used...
Well if that were true, they wouldn't tell you not to worry about accidental flags. Anyway, I always get a kick out of ads posted up here in NY with a background that is clearly New Mexico. Or the ads that have borrowed a pic from your old ad or someone you know (Turtle)!
It usually takes multiple people flagging for the ad to get deleted, although when you flag it, it removes it removes the ad from your view. From C-List:
CL users flag prohibited postings they find via the flagging link at the top of each posting.
Free classified ads sufficiently flagged are...
Nice read! A lot of work invested. Too many mods now to get a real weight, but I would have been curious as to the weight of yours since it oil-canned so bad. All three of my Packs weighed in at between 35.5 and 36 pounds, a little more than advertised, and I believe what may have kept the...
He/she has been posting those ads for almost a year now, always 'borrowing' someone else's pic to post. Really annoying when you search multi-state on Search Tempest!
I have heard tell of some OT Packs being overly 'flexible' amidship, I'm just curious: how much do you weigh? None of my Packs oilcanned excessively (like my MR Serenade https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dvW3xX7NNo) but they do/did 'give a little' with my 190 pound butt in the saddle.
What's the...
Mike, I was not a fan of the 'new' design Wenonah footbrace rails as I thought they added weight over the simple perforated aluminum angle. But I do like them now as I am able to bend them to fit the contour of the hull for a better installation. The only hull that gave me fits was a Hornbeck...
Mike, just wanted to say thanks again. Finally got the Vagabond in the water today and the back band is great! I had a slight issue with it wanting to creep down after a while, but I found a fix when I got home.
Of course, no solo (of mine) is complete without a Wenonah footbar. This is the sixth one I have installed and I am thoroughly disappointed in Wenonah. You shouldn't have to deburr and touch-up new parts from the factory!
That would be interesting to see! I had an American Trader Princess Solo rib and plank that when compared to the OT Pack was almost a perfect match dimensionally.
Pretty much what I did with the first two Packs. People ask crazy prices for 'em these days. The Pack last appeared in the 2014 Old Town catalogue, discontinued due to the cessation of Royalex sheet production and replaced with the Pack Element/Next. The advertised list price at that time was...
I don’t mean to disparage the boat. The problem is I am always trying to make it into something more. After all, the Pack sold for over 40 years! Beside the Malecite, I can’t think of too many designs that were around that long!
“The first reference to the Pack canoes that I've found was in...
I just picked up my third OT Pack for what I consider a fair price, a 2010 model for $575. I have never found anything to love about the Pack, other than the 34 pound weight when I lift her off the ground. The hulls oilcan ever so slightly, the big ugly OT gunnels creak incessantly and they...
