Thanks for the kind words. What bugs me most is the way the very last 3 (more like 6 pieces) strips went in. One of you seasoned veterans to canoe building must have a trick/secret to this, maybe not. Other than that, I am happy to be done with strips, and feel like I did alright. Always room...

No Title Jim, Thanks for your encouraging words. I just finished the strips. I thought about doing a design, but ultimately wanted to see how difficult it would be. It was a b*tch! Not very happy with how it turned out, but learned a valuable lesson. Anyhow, a picture of how it looks.

No Title Put in about 8 hours last night. Boy those long angles are tedious, takes me about 20 minutes per strip on average. I Have about 30 hours into applying the strips. I cut the centerline with a 6' aluminum ruler attatched to the forms with 2 screws The end result was a very clean edge...

No Title Waiting for glue to dry, so i decided to try making a couple staple pullers. I used some 1/16 x 1" x 8" long flat steel stock that was sitting around and cut angles on the end. Then I de burred and sharpened them with the belt sander. Stuck them in the vise and eyeballed what appeared...

No Title Thanks Jim, you are a wealth of knowledge, as are many others on this forum. Minimal progress tonight. I manage to get to the transition from vertical to horizontal with the strips. Razor blade and ruler technique works great, with a little fine tuning using a block plane. Pictures!!!!!

Jim, thanks for all of the advice. My internal reasoning for bead up was concern of destroying the cove side trying to set the strips. I will probably try cove up on the next one. Sounds you use a scrap piece to help set them or am I concerned with something I should not be? How do you cut the...

I did try alternating the last few strips and they were not very cooperative. Think they would have been a little more so earlier in the build. At first I wasn't quite sure how to go about it. Do you use a pull saw and cut the ends in place?

No Title Slow progress last night with lots of interruptions. Those last few strips on the stems were quite a workout to get into place. Even resorted to using some small screws in the ends. A couple more pictures to keep everyone entertained.

Managed to get a few more hours in last night. I couldn't convince the Mrs. that we should spend our quiet time on valentines day working on the canoe, but she did help me put the last 3 strips on last night. She says that it was kind of relaxing and enjoyable. Who knows maybe I can get her a...

I was thinking that tape might be to keep the glue off but now it all makes sense. I was thinking about doing something along those lines with my manual stapler but the electric is adjustable and seems like I have it dialed in pretty well. Might put some tape on anyhow for glues sake.

The glue bot is great, comes with a couple different tips. because of the way it's designed it dispenses glue right side up or upside down and anywhere in between. I got mine at menards but i know they also have them on amazon. I am building bead up. Trying my best not to sink staples too...

Put in a few more hours last night. Feeling pretty good about progress so far. Hard lesson learned, when milling strips do not cut cove side out of rough sawn face of lumber....fair amount of tear out on those edges. Oh well, going to use them anyway does anyone else use one of these "glue bot"...

I seem to be on track with your build methods. I did all of the above. I'm not sure if any of my pictures show it but I did put wheels on my strongback which fold up into the legs when not needed. I will take a picture later and post what I came up with. I know it's probably a very ambitious...

No Title I got a few strips on tonight! Thanks Jim for the encouraging words. That worm drive saw is a beast. I started out using a 13 amp bosch direct drive and found out the base was tweaked. Apparently someone used it on a jobsite and "forgot to tell me" that they dropped it.....Oh well. The...

I have been lurking around this forum for a while now, and have learned a lot from all of you experienced builders. I enjoy reading all the threads of canoe builds. Figure it's time for me to contribute to everyone's need for build threads. My ultimate goal is to have a lightweight composite...
