    Hello from Barrie Ontario Canada

Pook I am 1 exit south of Barrie a 20 minute walk from Lake m and yes, I am fortunate that there are some great local areas to dip a paddle in. Memaquay should not be as confusing then (see oldie mouldy's post above). By the way, I am the guy who was asking about firewood such on Facebook.

    Hello from Barrie Ontario Canada

Even though I drop by a few times a week I have not posted anything in 4 years so I thought it was well past the time I reintroduced myself and make an effort to actually start taking part around here. Other than a few years older and closer to retirement, not much has changed for me. Trying to...

    OvaEasy eggs still edible ????

Well I cooked up a small portion and they seemed to taste OK with no ill side effects so far but sitting at home is one thing and being in the middle of a 18 day solo in Wabakimi is another so I think I will give these a pass. Not sure how I missed Bauly's and if I was not leaving in a week and...

My mind is tired my originality is gone and tripping season is full on.

I seem to be on a bit of a soup kick this year and curried Sweet Potoato soup from A Fork at the Trail is one of my favories. Add to water, bring to a boil and simmer down to the consistancey you like. https://craveable.wordpress.com/2014/07/27/soups-on-again/

    OvaEasy eggs still edible ????

Ya I am thinking I should pass on them and not take the chance, but there is still that part of me that says go for it. I think I need to cook up a bit and see how it goes. As Bothwell mentioned, they are no longer available in Canada at a reasonable cost and I have yet to ind anything else decent.

    OvaEasy eggs still edible ????

I just came across an open package of OvaEasy eggs with one serving taken out of it that was involved in the Canadian recall. Now I have eaten one serving of this package when I bout it with no ill results so I am pretty sure there is nothing to worry about there. They have been stored in the...

    Stoked about an upcoming trip?

Yup. Leave for Wabakimi in 2 weeks and 4 days (not that I am counting) Flying into Kenoji lake and spending the next 18 days making my way over to Whitewater and then down through Smoothrock and meeting up with the train at KM Marker 29.3 Tempest Lake. Just me, myself and I in the group. The...

    weather radio suggestion?

shando you will have no problems receiving CBC anywhere in Algonquin and should be able to receive the weather stations as well. Plus depending where you are, receiving the local FM stations out of North Bay, Pembroke and Huntsville as well. Sitting on Hogan one evening I was able to listen to...

    Tandem Build - Des Moines

Alan I do not post here often but I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share this build. Simply stunning and whoever the final owner turns out to be, they will not only have a canoe but also a work of art. As one more person who looks forward to one day building their own canoe, I wanted...

    Question about twig stoves ...

In regards to Ontario Provincial Parks, during a fire ban twig stoves are not allowed. The last time I looked into this it included a call to the Park Superintendent (Algonquin) and it was explained to me that an open flame needed to be controlled by a valve enabling one to instantly shut off...

Restored Chestnut Bobs with sail kit ***SOLD***

Not only is that gorgeous, at 57lbs it is still lighter than my tandem. It's a good thing there is an International boarder between us or Bev and I would be having a rather serious conversation about just where I am planning on storing another canoe.

    All I wanted for Christmas......

Thanks, emails have already started with Phil and The Wabakimi Project and volume 1 and 3 are already on the shopping list, Phil has been a great help and resource in the initial planning and I am sure he will get tired of hearing from me by July. Cheers Rob from Barrie

    All I wanted for Christmas......

Well I can not complain this year. Under the tree was a new solo pot set and a fly in train out trip to Wabakimi the end of July. All I need to do now is confirm the time off work, finalize a route, source and print the topos, book the train and float plane and figure out a 19 day menu. Cheers...

    Hello from Barrie Ontario Canada

Not much of a trip really. Just an overnight to an access lake in Algonquin. More to get out of the house and clear my head a bit. Cheers Rob from Barrie

    Hello from Barrie Ontario Canada

Thanks for the kind welcomes all. Looks like I will be known as "Rob from Barrie" around here. Rob (Oldie Moldy) as Rob also pointed out, the name of my town is just "Barrie" not sure how I managed that one and I am beginning to see where another Rob will cause a little more confusion. Red...
