    Lake Lila Next Weekend

Thanks folks. Looks like we need to just commit to going Thurs. eve and figure the overnight out or do a "crack O dawn" departure on Friday. It's about 4 hours from here so if we get up and go early am we could probably be on the water by about 9(ish). What to do,what to do...... hmmmm

    Lake Lila Next Weekend

Thinking about doing this with the wife next weekend (9/19 - 9/21). Suggestions/ advice? Put in locations? If we arrive pm of the 19th can we camp at a put in/ parking area for that evening? Suggested camp sites? I have poked around at some of the threads that Lila is mentioned so I have half...

    Audio recording

Here are a couple thoughts. My GoPro H+3 Black gets pretty good sound even in it's waterproof case. Last year I did the Floodwood loop and it picked up the loons clearly. The other thought is that My same GoPro is NOT a very good device at all in low light. So regardless of the sound quality...

    ADK Couple day trip suggestions?

Hey all. I have the itch (yet again) to just get out for a couple days with m canoe. I'm retired now so a mid week trip is what I'm thinking in the hopes of finding minimal crowds. I recognize it's summer and the ADK's are much busier. I want to avoid "crowds" and don't want to have to stress...

    accurate weather reports?

I like Weather underground as well and use it with NOAA which I have found actually necks the accuracy down. I especially like that locals can add info as its in their backyard which helps to give me a timing of storm movement.

    Journaling on your trip.

Interestingly I have not kept a journal of backpack or canoe trips. I have thought about it but have yet to. What's odd about that is that the wife and I each keep travel journals and find great joy in occasional readings from them. We will sometimes jump around in them and read a passage about...

    Week long tripping saw?

First of all I concur with Hoop's post. I can only add that I have both a Bahco folder and a I have a 21" folding "Bob Destrude" saw. The Destrude saw is fantastic and the price is right. It weighs little and works hard. I've used it on numerous backwoods and canoe trips. Yes I travel with...

    Why I trip alone

This... NOW.... That said, I do enjoy trips with my wife and friends or even folks I haven't met. But they are different type trips than i'm inclined to or prefer in general. While my wife does occasionally go with me, the reality of our lives is that she is still gainfully employed. Being...
