Square Sterns for Hunting and Fishing.

Deerfly, Many days of travel in a Grumman just like that.....with jacklift too! Robin, That's a beautiful Chestnut and the condition really appears pristine. Way too nice for our shallow, rocky rivers.

Square Sterns for Hunting and Fishing.

The Scott Hudson Bay 21' canoe is very popular here and in YT as well as the Grumman 19' square stern. To handle our fast, glacier fed rivers, these canoes usually get powered by larger outboards. The larger canoes came about because of the need to bring moose meat out of the bush.

Fishing for Lake Trout in the Boundary Waters

For fishing Lake Trout while canoing, I keep a rod/reel loaded with 10# thin line; 2-3 feet of FC leader and a Buzz Bomb. Jig a bit at each point or structure change. The Buzz Bomb is heavy and sinks rapidly.

    Lake Trout Fishing

Lake trout are about the only fish I pursue any more. The smaller LTs are the better eating fish in the North IMO. Large ones go back in the water as their growth rate is very slow.

    Good Morning Canoe Folks!

Brad, I haven't done the rivers down in that area but have done Teslin/Yukon, Big Salmon etc. I spend a lot of my time on the big lakes as I like fresh fish for dinner. If you do the upper Yukon, plan on spending a day or two at Fort Selkirk. Well worth the time as it's visited only by...

    Square fry pan

For those that use a 2-3 burner Coleman type stove, the square copper colored fry pans are your friend as round pans don't utilize stove top space very well. I bough two at Fleet and farm for $10 each.....much cheaper than TV ads.

    History book recommendation?

"Robert Campbell Yukon Explorer" An amazing tale of hardship exploring the Liard River country to establish a Hudson Bay Post [Fort Selkirk] on the Yukon River. After a narrow escape from hostile natives, Campbell walked from YT to MN where he could catch a steam boat to work his way Eastward...

Canot, A great hunt and a great story! I've driven the South Canol and fished Quiet Lake but never tried the Nisutlin River. Thanks for all the pics.......appreciated! My Dad entered the Yukon via WPYR in 1942 and worked Canol Project. I have photos of him trail blazing the South Canol Road...

Good Morning! I'm an Old Alaskan that left MN many years ago and brought canoeing with me. I try to do a few weeks on Yukon Territory's big rivers and lakes each summer combining some good fishing with a scenic and historically interesting area. I found this site by searching for "Drawtite...
