    Yukon River 2019

Glad you enjoyed the trip. I was on Atlin and Tagish lakes and bugs were nil......how for you?

FS Esquif Miramichi 20 foot RX Canoe

Indeed it would be nice on our larger and deeper rivers. Big enough to haul a moose out. I've used side mounts extensively and they work very well with small outboards. It probably is rated >1,000 pounds. You could always drive up here and do the Yukon River before selling to me. :)

    Yukon River 2019

Two years ago, I caught a 50 minute flight from Dawson City to Whitehorse and I think it cost me about $100. That included airport shuttle.

    Yukon River 2019

Sounds like a good plan! I'll be in the Southern Lakes Region [Atlin, Tagish] at that time so it's doubtful if we meet. Enjoy!

    Painter line end treatment?

I've used the liquid plastic intended for pliers handles and it works great.

    Resuscitating Fish

I've got to agree with memaquay as I certainly won't go out of my way for pike either and the pickerel he refers to is the walleye to most folks. Unfortunately we don't have walleyes here so I have to settle for a small lake trout now and then. When fishing for lake trout, I use a lure large...

    Resuscitating Fish

Black Fly, Do not tow them backwards.......I carry a plastic fish gripper plier but anyway you can tow them frontwards with the mouth at least partly open. If fishing deep water fish like lake trout, I fight them to the surface slowly while watching for them to burp a quantity of bubbles...

    Another from The Last Frontier

Welcome Monel! After 65 years of canoes, I find some of my longer trips are now done in a square stern with an outboard. Especially on the big lakes. Should you get up this way, check in. The Delta Clearwater is a short trip on beautiful water full of grayling and I can always pick you up at...

    The Porcupine River

It was often thought that Albert Johnson was a Swede from North Dakota and IIRC they recently dug up a supposed family member to check DNA.....it didn't pan out. At least that's in the back of my mind some place. If traveling through Regina, go through the little Mountie Museum and view Albert...

    The Porcupine River

My buddy and his son did that same trip a few years back. Interesting for sure except for Yukon Flats.

    Winter Camping Army Style

I remember it well......extreme cold that couldn't be measured at some airports. Some areas thought to reach -80F. There was some talk of the barometer reading so high that it skewed the altimeter reading on the C-130. Steel was brittle and breaking on trucks/trailers. I was coming off Atigun...

Looking for Wilderness River for Summer 2019

Water levels seemed high but not extreme. The stacks were easy to avoid but were definitely not something you want to try in tripping canoe. If you search youtube, you'll find a couple videos where folks ended up in the water.

Looking for Wilderness River for Summer 2019

If you look at those youtube videos of Five Finger Rapids, you'll notice that by starting on far right and paddling across current toward left side above the stacks, you can avoid the roughest water. Of course this can vary with water levels but last time I went through with my freight canoe...

Looking for Wilderness River for Summer 2019

Several nice choices in Yukon Territory. Yukon, Teslin, Pelly, Big Salmon etc......no portages.....darned few people......easy currents to move you along

    Winter Camping Army Style

You wouldn't suffer at Black Rapids this winter as some Dog Sled Races are being cancelled because of qwarm temperatures and rain.

    Anderson River, Northwest Territories, 1999

I too have met some interesting folks on canoe trips. I'm fascinated with the different gear and techniques adopted by long time canoists.

Our Winter of Content in Canada's Western Arctic

Pitt, I really enjoy your story! You'll enjoy that Yukon River trip as even we older guys can handle the ride downstream. Plan on spending a day at Fort Selkirk and read "Campbell's Yukon" to really appreciate the history. The Teslin River from Teslin Lake to Carmacks onn the Yukon River is...
