    Lanterns for canoe camping

No Title I have been using a headlamp camping, as have all my friends, for almost 40 years now. As I mentioned above, Coleman does make a smaller white gas, mantle lantern. The exponent model 229This is what I use. A case is available too, and the base of the case makes a very stable stand...

    Lanterns for canoe camping

From September on, I bring one of the small white gas lanterns, fitted into a nice tough plastic case. It is great for doing those camp duties, like cooking and cleaning, especially with a group. Much better than having to use headlamps. Once this stuff is done, and we are chillaxing around the...

    Sander choices

Well, I was in Lowe's yesterday picking up a couple things for work, and happened by the air tool area. Ended up coming home with this. Once I give it a good go, I will report back. Not sure when that will be though. It certainly is small and light, and fits in the hand nicely. It is a 6", and I...

    Site down today for upgrades

Well, for starters, I am not the only one in the room any more. Not sure where our guest lives though. :) So things definitely are getting better. For the most part, we can all post and reply, and that is the primary concern. The rest is fluff, but I like fluffy. ;)

Yeah, I haven't had to yet try out this warranty, but if the situation is as you describe, it just would not be worth ones time to deal with the time and hassle required for dealing with warranty.

What to look for in a Tripping Dog?

I kinda disagree with the first part of this statement, and completely agree with the latter. I believe that EVERY dog, whether they come in your canoe, or not, should be well trained, even the tiniest of breeds. If you spend the just first few months with the dog, diligently training it while...

What to look for in a Tripping Dog?

It surely must be able to clean fish too.

    What dose ageing canoer need?

We have two kermit chairs. I do sometimes take one with me in the canoe. They are extremely well built, and very comfortable to sit on. I usually leave the leg extensions at home. They also make a fantastic chair at music festivals, where only the low ones are allowed. When trailer camping, they...

What to look for in a Tripping Dog?

"Squirrel" Where? What a meany head, tricking that sweet girl like that. :) Jasper too can swim, but not too big on it. He has always loved the water, bounding in deep, just prefers not to go in over his nose. Most of the waters I paddle on are either moving, or really cold, and the last thing...

What to look for in a Tripping Dog?

Jasper, our Australian Shepherd, just loves to go canoeing, and fits into the canoe just fine. He is near 50 lbs. Not sure I would want a much larger dog.

The one thing I like about Rigid tools, is that they are guaranteed for life. Could you not just take it in for repair/replacement?

I have a few Festool products, including a vacuum, and you just can't beat their quality, but I think you pay a premium for the name. I have been eyeing the Mirka for a few years, but have only ever used one once, and found it was fantastic to hold and use. Another option, if you have enough...

    Down sleeping bag? (specific criteria)

I have two Mountain Hardware down bags, that have a second zipper that either snugs things up as a mummy bag in the real cold, or allows more room when opened. If the temps are above freezing, I sleep with it open as a blanket only, with my Exped Down Mat underneath. I do like having the footbed...

    Photo of the day

This is what really counts. Good quality photos are nice for viewing by others, but some of the quick snapshots are loaded with the best of memories.

No way, the Guest lives in Calgary. This must be true, it says so right here on the internet. BTW, I am the only member ever online too. You all must just be figments of my crazy imagination. ;)

    What dose ageing canoer need?

They do tax the liver somewhat, but are only hard on it if used in excess, just as alcohol is. Your liver is actually a tough organ, the only one that can actually regenerate itself. I contracted HepC from bad blood, during the time I had leukemia over 25 years ago, and received lots of...

    What dose ageing canoer need?

I have both of those stools, sold by Coleman. The base of them is basically the same. The backrest on the first one really does no good, as it is low, and you have to lean too far back to get any support. Both are very light, and quite durable.

    Ideas for menus to dehydrate

Some good ideas there. Chilli and Lasagna are two of my favourites to take. They taste oh so good, after a few days in. A bit of bannock on the side, and I'm in heaven. :)

    Cowboy Coffee thoughts

"If you have enough brown sugar and canned milk, you can make the coffee less bitter." I would love to spend some time with that fellow, who is likely a world of knowledge, just not sure I would enjoy the coffee quite as much as he does. :)
