    Carbon Innegra canoe build

Nice job! That is one light boat! Lighter than my current solo build. You should be proud! I love the use of hockey sticks, great idea! I may have to use that at some point when I decide to revisit the idea of an all fabric composite build. Did you weigh any of those hockey stick seats? I am...

Nokomis Wood Workers First Canoe Build

Jim, you are are cruising along on this one. Does that mean you have not been working on your own personal builds? just out of curiosity, did you weigh the sawdust? I would be curious to know how much you took off with the outside sanding!

    Tarp for Hennessey Hammock?

Take a look at this tarp. I wanted to try a hammock last year on an 8 day trip, so I bought this and a cheap hammock. I was very happy with the tarp, not so much with the hammock.

    satilite text device advice please

I was gifted a previous generation inreach last year for my birthday. My wife wanted me to have one for her peace of mind during my BWCA trips. It works great, especially if you have a smartphone. It has the ability to connect via Bluetooth which makes typing messages easier. If you do not have...

    Northwest Cruiser 17 feet build

Looking good. Great progress! I see from your pictures that you have the same issue I did near the ends where the second forms from the stems are not "fair" and kind of created a bit of "swoop in" effect over those two forms. No big deal though, it doesn't seem to affect the performance. I...

Nokomis Wood Workers First Canoe Build

Jim, Looks great as always! The group build looks like great fun too. What a great way to make new friends and share your knowledge! I think my next build will be staple less, and I need to make some of those clamps with the inner tubes. I think I might use hot melt as well like Nick Schade...

    Passage Solo build

Jim, Thanks for the kind words! They mean a lot coming from an experienced builder such as yourself. I had a great time talking with you and Mike as well as Kent at the demo day! What's next.....well, first and foremost I have yet to finish sanding and varnish the whole boat. I also have not...

    Passage Solo build

Thanks to all for the responses and the kind words! Jim, I'm looking forward to paddling with you as well. Have you thought about checking with any of the lumber yards in the metro area for some ash lumber? give these guys a call if you have a chance Youngblood Lumber Company 1335 Central...

    Passage Solo build

Jim, I'm glad we managed to connect for a chat at the event. I always enjoy talking canoes, and I enjoyed talking with you. It's looking like I will be able to make it on Thursday to Lake Nokomis for the demo, though I'm guessing I won't make it there until a bit after 5pm. Looks like it goes...

I was curious about strips holding a curve like you have on your foam tanks. Steamboat bending has always been intriguing to me, so I bought a steam generator at tickler the other day. Looking forward to experimenting with that in the near future. I could see that steaming the strips for those...

Jim, I was planning on webbing for the seat. I have black on hand, but I think I might prefer a brown or tan on this one. I am also considering some sort of sliding mechanism for the seat, but I might just keep it simple this time. There's always the next one to try something a little more...

    Passage Solo build

Doug I did glue the gunwales on. I am pretty sure some will think I am crazy for doing my thwarts that way...but if I need to replace one or both, I will cut them off at the gunwales, and drill out the mortise and remake them.

    Passage Solo build

Looking forward to meeting you as well. A little update on the build: gunwales on, bulkheads installed, and thwarts cut to fit. I know my method for installing these thwarts deviates from what most people believe is the "right" way to do it, but I thought trying something different was in...

Do you build your strip panels over a form of some sort? I like your technique, seems very effective!

Jim, I got the okay from the boss to attend the auction...as long as I don't bring home a canoe. If you need somme overnight storage for a canoe I would be willing to let you keep it at my place, the only disclaimer is that it might be a bit out of your way. I'm located about 35 minutes west of...

Mason, Thanks for the compliment Doug, The darker wood is not stained as you mentioned, that wood is an all natural combination of WRC and salvaged redwood siding from my old house. You know what they say about clamps....you can never have enough! I think i had about 75 spring clamps on it when...

    Passage Solo build

Hey Jim, I did bead and cove. started with cove up this time and ended up switching back right before the bilge. I adjusted the privacy settings on my album on flickr, give it another try and let me know if its working. I logged out of flickr and it seemed to work for me. what appears to be...

    Passage Solo build

I am currently building my first dedicated solo. I have not really had the time to do weekly updates, so I will post a link to my flickr album for the build. Do not hesitate to ask questions about the build if you are so inclined. I am mostly posting this for all of the picture junkies out...

First time build - Freedom 17

Looks good! what do you think you might do differently? When I glassed my cruiser last March I was a bit intimidated. I did have a friend help mix epoxy while I spread it, but the first time is probably the most stressful. You are now at the point where your patience and dedication will be...
