What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I just scrolled up and realized I made this same exact post almost about a month ago! I guess if nothing else I am consistent! 😂🤣

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

This is a boat I'd like to experiment with - pull in the sides a bit to see if it could get a bit deeper and narrowed. But every one I have seen used for sale is too new and too expensive to alter at the moment! 😂🤣

    Hemlock SRT Solo Canoe Review

I love the Polaris - and if I ever get a new tandem it would probably be that - fast and light and efficient. The Polaris has an optional kneeling thwart, which I'd personally get - but this is not IMHO any sort of replacement or substitute for a SRT. I'd argue the Polaris is a superb tandem and...

Project Boat - Old Town Pathfinder

Old conversation I know - but I wonder if this is the same boat for sale in MD right now - I inquired a bit about it but got no reply. Interestingly set-up!

    Hemlock SRT Solo Canoe Review

I test-paddled the exact same boat that is currently for sale on the Hemlock used/demo page - it's an absolute stunner and was owned by Harold Deal himself. I paddled it kneeling and felt very comfortable in the boat - it was an absolute dream to be honest. I was on a lake in NY, so I have not...

WTB - Northstar NW Solo / Bell Merlin II / Hemlock Peregrine (or similar)

I did eventually end up getting a Merlin, so I am no longer in the market. It's a TOTAL beauty of a Merlin as well!!!

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Pulling in an Echo has been on my mind - it has enough rocker so that it should be possible without much negative impact on maneuverability. I think there were some Royalex Echos made early in their run - that would be a cool boat to find and experiment with!

    My New Northstar Phoenix

The carbon footbrace from Northstar is very light (well less than a pound) and is only just over $100 - and no drilling!

    FlashFIRE and Prospector 13!

    Plus a 16 and 17 as well!!!

Nova Craft's New Prospector 14' Solo Canoe, FAQ and Video

Oh I think if you get a carbon Swift with the carbon gunwales and tech packages, you could get the weight down to 25lbs or below - much lighter than the lightest option from Nova Craft for sure. The difference will be whether you want to take that mega-light Swift down rapids. I would be...

    FlashFIRE and Prospector 13!

Did anyone notice that Swift has added the Flashfire https://swiftcanoe.com/boat/flashfire/ and a brand new solo - a Prospector 13 - to their website?!? https://swiftcanoe.com/boat/prospector-13/

Nova Craft's New Prospector 14' Solo Canoe, FAQ and Video

Those carbon gunwales on a Swift do save a ton of weight. If comparably equipped, the Swift is 3lbs lighter per their respective websites - the TS is listed as 44lbs while the Swift Expedition Kevlar Prospector 14 with aluminum trim is listed at 41; add the carbon gunwales and the same boat is...

Nova Craft's New Prospector 14' Solo Canoe, FAQ and Video

Nova Craft doesn't list waterline width, but if we assume the the waterline widths are proportional, then the 15' L/W=5 while the 14' L/W is 5.25 - I do not know if I take that as gospel, but to me this means there should be a bit less resistance in the 14' and it'll be slightly faster. That...

Nova Craft's New Prospector 14' Solo Canoe, FAQ and Video

I was about to make a post asking about this boat, specifically in comparison to the Swift Prospector 14. Would be fun to test paddle both back to back!

Thoughts on small tandems for solo use / Brand Preference

The Esquif Huron 15 is really growing on me. It's billed as a cottage canoe, but it's the same hull as their Prospecteur 15, just trimmed down 2" shorter. Despite the cut-down hull, it's about the same height midship as an OT Camper while being lighter than the Prospecteur 15 and will catch less...

    My Perfect Solo River Canoe

I really want to try a Savage River - but holy cow they are expensive. You totally get what you pay for with SR, but that doesn't change the dent in one's bank account! The Harmony Solo in Carbon Inegra with the whitewater package would weigh around 32 pounds and be as rugged and capable a solo...

    My Perfect Solo River Canoe

I am thinking from context perhaps he was referencing a Firebird, the smaller sibling to the Phoenix produced by Northstar. Like the Phoenix is an upsized WildFIRE, the Firebird is an upsized FlashFIRE. I have not paddled one, but as an intergrade in size between the WildFIRE and the FlashFIRE -...

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I rather thought the Pen15 was a dedicated solo from the factory - did they make tandem Penobscot 15s??

What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

Redfeather Merlin III and Bell FlashFIRE. Hoping to add a solo river boat in the spring after I fix up and sell the sailing Penobscot I recently acquired!
