Hello back from just around the block from you yellowboat. Glad to see more from Florida around here. Yes the temps may be below freezing at night but the water is not solid. Just come a little bit more south. But the best time for canoeing in Florida for me is just about ending for the year...

Hello from east central Florida and the Mosquito Lagoon

Welcome from central central Florida. Just minutes from the mouth of the Wekiva river. Would like to get a look at the Keewadin and compare it to our Bell Northstar. Pocket cruiser canoes are rare here in Florida. Have only seen one other Northstar and no Kewadin. Also have never seen a...

    Basswood instead of Cedar?

Trump_lion I have even seen one. Only one. Wood and Canvas canoes are very rare around here. Any one who wishes can bring one by for me to drool on. I promise it will just wipe off. Bass wood is known to me as for paddles only. So Bass Wood for planks might be considered an heritage...

    Bell Wilfire gunwale restore project

Wish I had a way of posting pictures. Got to figure that out. The system of tape to protect the hull from a thin sheet of brass that in turn protected the hull from my vigorous sanding worked out great. The sheet was cut to 12 inches by 4 inches. This allowed me to move a little quicker and...

14 deg to 11 deg for Bending Branches

Was more or less joking around about hording. Sweeper have been looking at Foxworx paddles. They look good. Never seen one in person. Canotrouge have been drooling over ZRE carbon fiber. Believe they are 11 deg. Any change in paddle feels strange. My straight shafts just sit around gathering...

14 deg to 11 deg for Bending Branches

Just saw a video on Canoeroots website about Bending Branches paddles being redesigned. The bad news for me is they are went from 14 deg bent to 11 deg bent shafts. Have been using 14 deg bent shafts for 30 years and Bending Branches and Gray Owls for close to 25 years. If Grey Owl has done...

    Old Town gunwales

You can buy wood gunwales from edscanoe.com. They come in sections so can be delivered by UPS. Use Tite Bond III as the glue. If you are going to use oil take the time to oil the side that will be next to the hull many times. Wont be able to get to them easy again. Should not have to say...

Aligator attack in central FL and wild life used to humans

At a local launch point/bar/canoe & kayak rental that we use a few times a year a woman swimming just had her arm bit off. Every time we are there always wondered why people swim in the water. Always see gators around. Seems like the wild life in some areas are losing there fear of humans...

Rafting Rivers to Improve Rapids Reading Skills

It has been years since I have been on class 3 or 4 in a canoe. From what I recall the lines that were run in a canoe were quite different from what the rafters around us were using.

    Car Roof Rack

A couple of tips if I may. Just recently moved to using another vehicle other than my truck cap and Quick and Easy brackets. First off make sure you measure the placement of the foot correctly on the roof. The distance between the feet on the bar is also important. You MUST get good grip to...
