    Creating a wanigan...........

That Sir, is what comes to mind when I envision a wannigan. A proper one indeed. The wannigans of my youth were all rounded at the ends, like yours, and flat bottomed. Mated to the contour of the vessel they were built for. I had one that was an old hand-me-down, and the lid was attached with...

    DIY solo portage yoke ideas?

Thanks Mike. Helpful information. I really like the "always there", "easy to connect", "can't forget", or lose components during a trip, pure simplicity. I think this may indeed prove the "Less is more" theory.

    DIY solo portage yoke ideas?

Mike, do the 2" D-rings ever make rattling together noise when the strap is not woven through? Would I be over thinking it by putting a velcro keeper on them as well?

A new contender for worst manufactured canoe ever

Might not "run" off with it, but might roll off with it. Remember its got the always desirable and prized moulded-in skeg wheel.

    Where can I paddle if . . .

Seriously? I think someone needs a nap.

    Where can I paddle if . . .

Well you sure don't want to come to Louisiana. Not any croc's, but we make up for it with an outstanding gator population, and everything else on your list.

    Sponge ??

"Add some sand and mud to the mix". That's funny. Paddling in Louisiana without sand and mud would be mission impossible.

Think enclosed in a mesh bag would help?

    Sponge ??

Bilge Balls. Found these while looking at boat sponges. These could sure start some trouble. https://www.amazon.com/Seattle-Sports-Bilge-Balls-Orange/dp/B06XBS5X7K/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1494459245&sr=8-7&keywords=boat+sponge

    Sponge ??

Thanks for all the ideas folks. Never had a sponge with a cover on it, but seems practical. Not having used either terrycloth, microfiber, or mesh bag style, I think that a comparison test is in order. Think I will try the HD multi-pak sponges. I'm trying to learn how to use a thread injector...

    Sponge ??

A question for the learned. My old canoe sponge with it's tether, has gone awol, and must be replaced, as I have become accustomed to having it with me for all sorts of things. It had been on countless trips, and while I realize that any large sponge would work to a degree, I thought that asking...

Resin Work New Trick for Me

That white vinegar trick will be greatly appreciated. Cheaper, readily available, way less flammable, and no concern over self combusting rag issues. And maybe save a few brain cells from acetone fumes. Thanks

Resin Work New Trick for Me

Glad to know about the vinegar. Does it work for all epoxies, or just the G-Flex epoxies? I'm assuming you were using either 650 or 655.

    Adjustable sliding solo seat

Thanks for the Texas Towers info. I rarely have a weight issue with a portage, so the 1" and .875 will give me a sturdier brace. Would really appreciate if you could, at your convenience, post the spring dimensions. I'm getting excited to build a couple. Thanks again Alan.

    Adjustable sliding solo seat

You are quite welcome Sir. Just glad that I had something to contribute, to help make your superb design, even safer, and with cleaner cuts. I started using carbide blades on aluminum in the mid 80's. Cut a metric crap-load back then designing and hand building two passenger-for-hire Coast Guard...

More work on the tripping truck

Mike, I have really been thinking about my buddy that had the truck tent issues since mentioning him to you. Buried him 12 years ago, but this thread conversation regarding truck cap ventilation was almost a trip down memory lane. I was thinking about the concept and the issues he had, and...
