What do you drink on a trip?

Going to give those True Lemon packets a try. Had never heard of them, but found that they are available locally. Thanks Conk.

How to handle the physical and psychological issues of aging?

Good to hear from you Glenn. You have brought a wealth of canoeing knowledge to this forum. And many of us have benefitted from you having shared. Getting older is definitely not for wimps. Takes way more intestinal fortitude and determination, to do now, what was my old normal. Adapting from...

Paddle Your Own Canoe - The River Styx

My Father-in Law survived the Baton Death March, and then spent nearly four years in a Japanese prison camp, until the end of the war. One of the worst prison camps the Japanese operated. I only knew him for the last 12 years of his life. Screwed him up beyond belief. Anyone, repeat ANYONE, who...

    E-6000, new (to me) adhesive

Mike, I find that it stores and keeps equally as well as similar style products. Thins well with lacquer thinner if needed.

    E-6000, new (to me) adhesive

Been using it for over 20 years. Forms a great head on large offshore saltwater flies. I use a rotating drying wheel. Started using it not for its strength, but for the property that it stays clearer longer. Most all of the similar type products will eventually start to yellow. Amber might be a...

Another Super video !!! Heart Warming !

Thanks Jim. Really enjoyed. In 1974, while they were embarking on their initial adventure, our daughter was two, and both of us were in college and working at the same time. I have more than a few voyages, cut short due to responsibilities, that someday I hope to conclude as well. While not as...

    Score....

Al, that is a well set camp. Second pic with the glow of the fire is a keeper for sure. We love going back over old photos of our most memorable set-ups. Never camped with a stove, but may have to add one to the gear. I really like the open front of the baker design. Room with a view and a...

    Freedom Solo 16'

Wow Just Wow. Beautiful craftsmanship. She looks fast just sitting still. My only relativity to your build is using helicoils, and the same 11amp angle grinder and kutzall shaping disc. Great combo for removing stock. Can't imagine how big your grin is going to be when you launch her. Kudos on...

Bringing an old FLY or Tarp back to life

You are welcome southcove. I will check on that fly this weekend, when I get back in. Think only the topside, but it has been a few years, and I have slept since then.

How to differentiate nylon from polyester rope?

Glad you are satisfied with the recommendation. I have really enjoyed having and using it. Sort of like your reflective tape on a canoe. Just makes sense. Have you had a chance to observe the Glowire in its intended use at night?

Bringing an old FLY or Tarp back to life

Hey southcove, as McCrea quoted, I have indeed recoated a fly. Have a small one-man "backpacking tent". I really liked it, but the coating on the fly started flaking off. It is at least 45 years old, so finding a replacement fly would not be possible. I like carrying it as a back-up plan for the...

A Quck Overnight on the Local River

Doug, glad you have recovered enough to start getting back on the water. I can only imagine after surgery, how many times you thought of sitting by a fire on a river. That fire must have warmed the soul as much as the coffee warmed the body.

    Refurbishing a favorite old tent

:D I am glad that you have been able to extend the life of some well appreciated tripping gear. It is a bit of work, but the first few times of rain pelting down, and you staying dry, should put a smile on you, and make you appreciate all the effort and hard work it took to get weathered in...

    Rustoleum Top Side paint

I like it. 17' Thistle here. 191sq. with 220 spin, but a little heaver at 550. But like you said; powerful. Mine is cold moulded ply. Not near as pretty as yours. Last time I had her out solo, I got dumped while fully extended in a hiking harness, with only feet on the rail. Back is getting too...

    Zipper Pet Peeve

Zippers complete structural integrity on fabric structures. Closing zippers is akin to learning about closing gates. Significant Grrrrrrrr issue here as well.

    Rustoleum Top Side paint

I have used it above waterline. Would use it more, but have a local (Louisiana) marine paint that just plain works. "Duralux", made in New Orleans. Home Depot (among others) is a major distributor for it, and it is formulated for hard use, commercial, fishing, etc.
