    A few days in Quetico

I think the photos might make the thwarts look a bit more arched than the are, unless the tranquility has a more pronounced arch than the Quetico and Wilderness models. You'd have to have almost zero clearance between your roof and racks for it to be a problem. They're no where near as high as...

    Yes, I still paddle.

Based on your previous moose hunt trips reports, I might think people would make an effort to avoid any area you were planning on hunting. Following you guys seems like a sure way to not see any moose at all!

    Bigger is Better

Assuming that this new boat will guarantee you win that $10,000, you'd be a fool not to build it. Are you thinking of putting a 25 on it, or sticking with a 9.9? I bet in your younger days you would have portaged that boat, motor and all!

    XY Paddles

You could try to take 2nd place in Northstar's T-shirt design contest! Then you'll get a free voodoo.

    XY Paddles

The Mitchell Surreal/Northstar Voodoo is a pretty awesome straight shaft. If you can find one it seems like the Mitchell branded one is a bit cheaper. Mine has paddled all over Northern Ontario and the BWCA, bounced off rocks in whitewater, been lost in whitewater (just once!), and is still...

    Most recent tripping kit subtraction?

We always carried more cook kit than we needed, and are now down to one pot and one pan. We also ditched our white gas stove and fuel containers and now only bring a stick stove. So far it has worked well, although we haven't had to us it in a "many consecutive days of hard rain" scenario. Quinn

    Marshall lake maps and info

It's not the original report, but here are reports from the two times we did the loop, once in high water and once in low water. High Water: https://bearskinoutfittersblog.wordpress.com/2015/07/30/the-marshall-lake-loop-nakina-ontario/ Low Water...

    Voyageur Outdoor Gear

These guys make a pretty cool two burner stove. It runs on Isobutene, and can be made to run both burners on a single canister. https://www.voyageursoutdoorgear.com/

    Gunflint Trail

You'll miss (at least) half the fun of living on the Gunflint if you leave for the winter! The Gunflint trail is a great community. Quinn

    The Marshall Lake Loop

We paddled the Marshall lake loop again this fall. We had a great trip, but were hampered by low water. Read all about it here: https://bearskinoutfittersblog.wordpress.com/2017/10/06/the-marshall-lake-loop-in-low-water/

    2017 Boundary Waters Expo

The Boundary Waters Expo is back for 2017. The event will be held June 17-18th on Northern Minnesota's Gunflint Trail. There will be gear, canoes, speakers and a highly competitive game of Dead Fish Polo. This year will also feature a moderated panel discussion featuring Cliff Jacobson, Dan...

Which first epoxy resin & hardeners to buy as a Newbie?

I've used Ebond Epoxy a bit recently. It probably isn't the best, but it seems to have average properties, a super long pot life with the slow hardener, and an easy 2-1 mix ratio. I've heard that it does blush, but haven't experienced it myself. Oh, and it is sooo cheap, cheaper than a lot of...

    Springbar Tent

The Nemo Wagontop series might be a good solution for someone looking for a very livable tent. They've had one of these set up at the BWCA Expo the last two years, and they look very well thought out. Quinn

    Boat paint

I've used the rustoleum marine topside paint on a few boats and been satisfied with the results. I've also been satisfied with the price. It seems tough enough, and easy to spray or roll. I wouldn't be surprised if the reg. rustoleum was pretty much the same paint. Quinn

On The Unbearable Lightness of Modern Tents

Alan- I'd encourage you to take a look at exped's offerings as well. I have a Venus II that I am very happy with. It's not light, but it looks like they now do make a lighter option. The tent is rock solid, and a little easier than a standard tunnel tent to set up on a slab of bedrock. I've...

    Blown away

While not due to wind, I do have a good story about run away gear. We were paddling the upper Otoskwin river north of Pickle Lake. We came to the last large set of rapids before Otoskwin lake. After prolonged scouting (in the time it took it would have been much faster to just portage) and a...
