Just purchased 16' Esquif Prospecteur T-Formex, should I get the 17' foot instead?

I might be in the minority but I would stick with 16. Your gear is not going to change that much from one week to two, just more food really. It sounds like you have a backpacking background so you either have or are used to using ultralight gear which I would suggest for a two week trip. Also...

What's going to be your first trip once the border opens

Love reading all your trip plans guys! Some are quite impressive (PaddlingPitt - I gotta go read that trip report - looks like beautiful country). I hope you can get them all in this year. I'm really hoping for a fall opening, but we'll see.

What's going to be your first trip once the border opens

To all my fellow Americans, just out of curiosity and something to get me through until ice-out, what will be your first canoe trip north of the border once it opens? For me I am thinking a trip into WCPP through Leano Lake or if I'm pressed for time and can't afford the drive time a trip to...

    Well, Darnnit.

I'd love to see an update on the Nova 15 once you paddled it for a bit. Specifically how much room their is for you, your pup and gear and maybe another paddler on the rare occasion. I've been eying that same boat in their Tuffstuff, just not sure if I want a 15 or 16ft for the extra room.

    Dogs in Tents?

That is a really nice setup! That's the one thing keeping me from sleeping in a hammock. I would be protected from the ravages of bugs but not my dog. Seems like this solves that issue. I like it!

    Dogs in Tents?

I trip with a black lab and keep her nails trimmed and use a Klymit static v air mattress with either a down blanket or down sleeping bag depending on temps for her. Never had any issues. Cold doesn't even bother her as I've slept under tarps as well even in the winter and use this same setup. I...

    Library Bookmark Reviews

I don't really pay attention to reviews either. The book is either going to seem interesting to me or not. My rule is give it 50 pages. If I don't like it, move on. Kinda off topic but right now I'm nose deep in A season For Wilderness by Michael Furtman. No plot, it's really just an...

Thank you. Maine is has always been someplace I wanted to go. Have you ever traveled over to Nova Scotia? That's on my wish list as well.

    Lucifer's Portage

Well it wasn't really rough just long but mine is a 3 and 1/2 mile mostly single carry portage into White Deer Lake in the McCormick Wilderness.

    Permits Available?

Obviously everything is still very fluid but from everything I have been hearing is that Americans shouldn't plan on paddling in Canada anytime this year.

Death in the Wilderness: What do you do with the body?

Well let me start by saying there is NO way I would go on a trip like that without some type of PLB but for arguments sake I'll bite. I would cache the solo canoe and whatever gear we didn't need and hi-tail it to the nearest takeout point with the body, paddling as long of days as I possibly...

Training a pup for backcountry canoe expeditions!

Enjoyed the video. Thanks. Honestly your well on your way. You have a lab so its easy to use food rewards. Use lots of food rewards, especially that early in life. When mine was that young I would give her food rewards for just being by me. Made her want to stick around. Just like you would...

    Newly from Thousand Islands

Welcome to the site! I think I've seen some of your post over on BWCA, a site I've been meaning to but have yet to join. Always fun to look for a new canoe! Dan

    Collector or connoisseur

I am constantly mapping out canoe routes that I may never take. Love to have the option there just in case though.

(Another) help me find a new solo canoe

I own both a Swift Keewaydin 14 in pack setup and the Prospector 14 in the solo canoe setup (you can check out both canoes on my channel). Both in Kevlar fusion. Love them both for different reasons. The Keewaydin is awesome if its just me. It takes a little bit to get used to as the initial...

Day trip on the Silver River

Very nice trip report. Thanks for sharing. Still got a couple of feet of snow up here.

    Source for cheap(est) dry bags?

+1 on the "outdoor products" bags. They were one of my first outdoor purchases when I got back into canoeing. Im actually still using them 5 years later and they're holding up well. Obviously I don't like them as much as Outdoor Research or Osprey but for the price they can't be beat. Just look...

What are your favorite paddle gloves

I use NRS hydroskins for spring and fall and Outdoor Research Extravert for winter. Love them. Plenty warm and waterproof. Only issue is they are not touch screen compatible. I also love and use Sealskinz DragonEye gloves which are warm, waterproof and touchscreen compatible. Can't have enough...
