Old Town Pack Element & T-Formex speculation

:p True, that! But it looks like his & hers RapidFires are in our future. It's not a small deal at all, and I don't have $$ growing out of my nose, so I'm gonna stay on the narrow path that gets me there.

Old Town Pack Element & T-Formex speculation

True. We know T-Formex is out there on the market. But I don't really see it putting a dent in things yet. The big manufacturers aren't yet really doing a lot yet. Makes me wonder if Esquif can't produce enough of it to make its use worthwhile, or if it's not consistently meeting quality...

Old Town Pack Element & T-Formex speculation

Around 4 years ago, Old Town started showing off a new play on its 11 foot Pack canoe. The "Pack Element" will look an awful lot like the current Old Town Next. But unlike the 13 foot Next, the Pack Element was 11 feet long. The Pack that it was based on was said to weigh 33 pounds in Royalex...

First day out with new boat and new canoe dog

She and I went out to lunch today. We were bouncing back and forth between Swift's web site & PBW. Some of Swift's pack boats had a lot of appeal to her from the combination of cost/weight perspective. Her #1 criteria is weight, so keeping it down closer to 20 lbs is worth a few more bucks. So...

First day out with new boat and new canoe dog

I actually exchanged some really helpful emails with Joe @ PBW. The RapidFire is a compelling contender. But past experience working with third party shippers not backed by the seller is leaving me a bit aloof.

First day out with new boat and new canoe dog

Hahaha! Well we talked more about it. She wants to get the first one for me and then she'll tell me if she likes it as-is, wants a smaller one, etc. and we'll use that feedback to get hers in the Spring.

First day out with new boat and new canoe dog

The Big Camper is back on the water. The new seats are working pretty well. They are very low, which I did on purpose, but that helps with the constant weight shifting around from the dog(s). We went out on the Neuse River today. We started out with my wife and the schnauzer in the Camper with...

playful splashes from Raleigh, North Carolina

We have alligators in NC, but just down east. So here in Raleigh, it's gator-free. I don't have to go far to get into gator waters, though. There's a really good chance a PBW RapidFire is joining my fleet soon. I'm having to go kinda sight unseen, which is really unsettling in this price range...

playful splashes from Raleigh, North Carolina

I've been getting out more and more with my family. They are all speaking pretty clearly on a few points: * They prefer solo boats to tandem. * "Whoa, do they come any lighter?" * Of the boats I currently own (Old Town Camper 16 RX, Old Town Next, Dagger Axis 12.0 kayak) everyone prefers the...

    Be Careful Out There...

Lest anyone from up north freak out over this, alligators are not anything to be terrified of when paddling. If the news story is true, the alligator probably only cares about a paddler enough to get away from them. Unless you have a small dog in your boat, you're probably not attractive.
