    Which modern materials layup?

I grew up in PA so I remember the weird alcohol laws. The laws in NC have become remarkably better in that department since I expatriated to the old south. My contribution to the campfire in June will be of a decidedly local flavor.

    Which modern materials layup?

I'm all about the carbon-infused basalt innegra finish. But those two-tone boats with pigmented cloth up top, champagne gel coat below, are just really easy on the eyes. In fact, yeah, I really like the sage-over-champagne look.

    Which modern materials layup?

Going to bring some of those to PA in June, are ya? :)

What's happening in your shop this winter?

Alan, how did you get started on learning it? My daughter has been using her mother's sewing machine every day to run a successful Etsy shop, but I got her a fancy new Brother machine for Christmas. Now her mother's machine is suffering a lack of use. I've got a really big head so I might have...

Your favorite small piece of gear.. not big stuff.. Small doo dad

I don't think I go paddling for so much as an hour without at least three Zip-locks with me. That number has gone down by one since my latest phone upgrade is waterproof.

    Duluth Pack sale

Yeah, that's the color that I grabbed. It's got a classic look but with some modern amenities.

    Duluth Pack sale

I looked around and then I went to LL Bean and bought a Continental Rucksack that's not on sale. Not as a portage pack but just as a general bushcraft rucksack.

Your favorite small piece of gear.. not big stuff.. Small doo dad

One of the pens I still use today is a 1940's Wahl Eversharp Skyline. Looks like it was made last week. Though there is something a little fiddly going on with the threads in the cap that I need to fix.

Your favorite small piece of gear.. not big stuff.. Small doo dad

I think I've become a bit of a fountain pen snob (indeed, there is a Pilot Custom 823 in my shirt now, inked with KWZ Honey). That said, I do have a few non-fountain pens kicking around for when I need to write on a post-it note or other stationery that is decidedly not up to the task of...

Your favorite small piece of gear.. not big stuff.. Small doo dad

Yeah, I use old timey iron gall inks in them when I want a document to be permanent. Such ink would destroy a ball point pen.

Your favorite small piece of gear.. not big stuff.. Small doo dad

My favorite little doo-dad is a Buck Nano Bantam knife that goes with me everywhere on my keychain. I've been carrying it every day, everywhere (except airports) for the last 5+ years now. Close second is a Stipula Passaporto pocket fountain pen that goes in the "fifth pocket" (watch pocket) of...

Your favorite small piece of gear.. not big stuff.. Small doo dad

I have one of those, too. Fell in love with it on a cold morning while sitting in my canoe eating hot chicken noodle soup out of a thermos. The spoon reached to the bottom so I could eat out of the thermos and not dirty up a bowl.

    Old Town "Next"

I just weighed my Old Town Next using a bathroom scale... I weighed myself without it, and then picked it up and weighed myself again. I did this three times on three different spots on the floor just to be sure of the results (which were consistent). My Old Town Next weighs... 64 pounds...

    Old Town "Next"

Great info. Definitely some good outfitting considerations here. I'm meaning to take the bathroom scale out to the workshop and weigh the Next. I suspect it's more than the advertised 59 pounds. But by how much?

What's happening in your shop this winter?

My Bonneville was a 2007 T100. It sounded like a sewing machine to me, so the only thing I did with it was swap in some cheap Emgo pipes. Ripped the baffling out. Then it was downright obnoxious. But I've had so many problems with motorists drifting into me, changing into my lane, etc. either...

What's happening in your shop this winter?

Here's the one I already got rid of (not yet dressed up nicely)... a 1985 Honda V65 Magna. It was, in 1985, the fastest production motorcycle in the world. Wait, did you say Bonneville??? That was my first motorcycle!

What's happening in your shop this winter?

Sweet! I'm looking forward to WPASCR in June. The bike needs to be gone by then. My hope is to go up and try out a bunch of boats, really narrow the playing field, or maybe even find The One. I've been looking at the Keewaydin 15 ... a lot... but a few have suggested I give the Shearwater a...

What's happening in your shop this winter?

I'm reading this in Bill Swift's voice. That bike is nice but it is Japanese and it is going to be 11 years old when it goes. Truth is, I can get one nice basalt innegra boat with what I get for this bike.
