    Canoetripping.net is a special place!

Great post Mem......this is my first stop in the morning with a cup of coffee. Leaves me in a much better mood than reading the news! I'm still going through the older threads, so there's a lot of fresh stuff to read. Thanks to all for the posts and pictures.

    Trip "cut" short

I'm sorry to hear of your mishap and hope your healing goes quickly. I hear stories like this and cringe. My brother had a similar mishap several years ago up on Follensby. He was on a fishing trip with my best friend from high school. Back in the late 60's, we used to paddle out there on a...

    Longtime Lurker Finally Joining In

Welcome NavalCanoes! You avatar looks like the Great Dismal Swamp! Like you, Uncle Sams Canoe Club brought me to the area back in the 80's (Dam Neck), and I stayed in the area. Lots of places to paddle. Give me a shout when you get back and stay safe! Yohawk

    Sierra Trading Post

Never knew there was a store in Cheyenne.....we stop at the one in Cody every year on our way out of Yellowstone. The "deals" for outdoor gear seem to be declining, but we manage to find a few gems in each trip. Smart Wool socks are a staple! Now that you mention it, the sales seem to be less...

    Swamp paddling recommendations

Merchants Mill Pond is a great place to visit. There are "paths" marked with buoys to mark routes you can follow. As you paddle through the park, you leave a trail in the vegetation on top, which slowly closes in. The park even comes complete with an alligator! It's about a 40 minute ride from...

    Coldfeets Chum in the shop

I'll never tell....... I will share, and I don't understand why, but I've noticed a huge difference between paddling the Chum vs a Kevlar 16' boat. The Chum weighs more on land, but on the water feels like a feather in comparison. I'm sure it being a foot shorter makes for some of the...

    Coldfeets Chum in the shop

It might have more to do with increasing Busch beer sales. At this rate, we might have a Chestnut Chum convention at "Robins House of Canoes."

    Coldfeets Chum in the shop

I see Busch beer was involved, again! Looks like a good job was done stripping the finish. Please post pics of the progress of the repairs. One of my stems seems a bit soft, I'll know more when the canvas comes off this winter, so any insight will be helpful. What type of cedar was used for the...

First day out with new boat and new canoe dog

I just replaced a cane seat today......as yellowcanoe mentioned, getting the old spline out was a job. I used an 1/8" chisel and a razor knife to get the get the bulk of the old spline and cane out. A mixture of warm water and distilled whited vinegar helped dissolve the old glue. I soaked the...

Barn find-might be good, might be so so

I think mine might do better with the keel off!

Barn find-might be good, might be so so

They look great, Robin. The newer Chum looks much narrower than the older one. I remember we measured them, but don't remember what the difference was. I have to admit, they do look nice and clean without the keel!!!

    Chestnut Chum in Mass.

Thank you! Full disclosure here......my wife liked "the red one" and I liked the green one. We compromised. Now, I just have to sell the OT 119 and two plastic kayaks. I must say, I can't wait to paddle them both a little more extensively. I have a Mad River Explorerer (Kevlar) now and the Chum...
