A Few Photos From The 2012 WCPP Gathering

Hill, HA! Good to hear from you too, Jim. I hope that you can make the Gathering again this year in WCPP. I really enjoyed traveling with you.

You of course know that I and others will try to talk you into attending the WCPP Gathering this coming August!

So, what old item do you still use?

I have an old #2 Duluth Pack That I use for day trips. I got it in 1960 for Christmas. I also have my Tubbs wood and leather showshoes from Christmas 1959. Both are in good working order and are all original except for the bindings on the snowshoes. I had to replace them in the 80's. I also...

Any Nova Craft Pal paddlers here?

I have the same Pal as you and Bob B and love it for tripping. I am on the lookout for a good used Bob Rx for other options as well. I may have to buy new.

Wha' cha like? Wha' cha don't like?

Bob B is in his own category when it comes to walleye fishing! Fish for dinner? No problem, give him 15 minutes.

    Some Experienced Thoughts, Please?

Ravenwolf, Some great advice, and implied or explicitly expressed is to get out and paddle. Getting the basic hang of it so you don't swim is the first objective, then refining your technique. Most of us aren't looking to get into the major leagues of paddling but are always trying to improve.

Hello all. Thirty one years in a canoe and still learning from this site.

Are you near Tampa? My wife and I spend winters in Zephyrhills. We bring our kayaks down from Wisconsin and mostly paddle the nearby rivers, mangroves, and Tampa Bay. I'd like to discover some new sites.

What do you know about paddling in Florida?

Hillsborough River near Tampa Bay 2011: Quite a sight for a northern Wisconsin boy! I was hoping to get a glimpse of at least one. They were thick along the bank in my early morning paddle...about fifty to one hundred feet apart. The two above were on the same log.

    Plans for 2013?

Beavertail, I hope to run into you in WCPP. There are tentative plans for a gathering which will be formalized at Canoecopia in March, and I would like to spend at least 25 to 30 days up there this year. (Exact dates aren't yet established.) There will be others from Illinois and Wisconsin...

Beavertail, I'm afraid I may have accidentally burned one of your sticks in my twig stove!

    Camp saw

Thanks Glenn, but I just ordered one. I'll choose the saw I like best and maybe give the other to my son.

    Best Wishes

I hope and pray that all my online friends from the northeast seaboard are safe and sound during this awful storm. You have my best wishes and prayers during this trying time. Let me know if there is anything I can do for you.

Great post. I think you speak for many of us.

    Camp saw

The Laplander looks like a good saw, and I'd like to try one out. Assembling the Fast Bucksaw was kind of a hassle until I had adequate practice, but it now takes less than a minute to set up. (Although it would be nice to have it all set and ready to go.) I've had a number of pack saws and for...

    Camp saw

My favorite is a Fast Bucksaw, made in Hastings, Minnesota. It's a small buck saw that folds up into a stick. It's not as small as the one above, but it cuts through large logs blocking the portage as well as firewood, and does so super fast. I've had mine for two years and it has proven itself...
