    Photo of the day

Bob B and I are enjoying a beautiful day in the BWCA last June. This is one of six days in a row that we saw such fine weather. This is a photo that every canoe tripper can relate to!

    Greetings from Gavia

When was that? I hadn't heard about it. I was camped on an island when the tornado hit the flowage in 2010. It blew down a lot of trees, but I had not heard of anyone struck by lightning.

    Greetings from Gavia

Welcome Gavia, I live in northern Wisconsin and solo paddle the Turtle-Flambeau and the Willow. Maybe we'll run into each other out there. If you see a grizzled old guy in a red Nova Craft Pal, that would probably be me. The dog in my avatar will probably be with me.

    BWCA trip June2013

Here's my photos from the BWCA trip to add to Bob B's trip report. Bob B knows how to catch walleyes!! Bob B resting from catching all those walleyes. Poor photo of a moose swimming across the channel in front of us. This is what came after Bob's storm front photo. River running...

    The Paddle has been passed

Thank you so much, Robin for filling the void after Solotripping closed, and a big thank you to you Brian for continuing. By the way Brian, I spend a few months in the winter in Zephyrhills. Maybe the three of us could meet for that cup of coffee or a paddle?

    Noob question....

I agree with the others, Firemaninacanoe. I would maybe start by renting and/or trying canoes out at a local canoe shop. If new is too pricey, you can look for a good used canoe. I bought my used Nova Craft Pal looking on this site: http://www.paddleswap.com Also, keep asking questions on...

    Header Picture submissions

Robin, I agree with Rippy and Canoencowboy that we would all enjoy seeing one of your great pictures up there. I do like the idea of having a photo gallery where single photos could be uploaded without a trip report. Perhaps just an explanation of when and where it was taken would suffice. I...

Flagstaff Lake, Maine, 5 days solo

Thanks for the TR. We're still getting pummeled with snow which started Wednesday and there's still a foot of ice on the local lakes, but soon...

    Upper Manistee April 19-20-2013

Very nice trip report. I can't wait to get out, but we're having one snowstorm after another and are pretty much still iced in.

    Weird/Violent Weather Stuff

On July 27, 2010, a fellow solo camper and I met on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage in northern Wisconsin. We were hit by a tornado which wiped out most of the campsites across from west to east and did a whole lot of property damage around the Springstead area of the flowage. Many of the campsites...

    Florida Canoers?

Sounds great! I'm near Tampa from January to April, though I may be down earlier next season.

    Opasquia 2014

See you there! We still need to finalize the location and date for the gathering. Any suggestions? I'll be in the park the last week of July and plan on staying at least three weeks.

    Sunrise on the Turtle

Sorry... point and shoot Canon. I could fix it in Photoshop or in other software, but I usually keep the original untouched. I think I have another copy of this shot which came out better but I'm not sure where it is.

    Sunrise on the Turtle

Great shot! I'm on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage lots. Maybe we'll run into each other there.

    York Factory

Here's a place to start your inquiry: http://www.paddle.mb.ca/resources/routes/expeditions/h-01/ I was at Jay Timmerman's presentation on Saturday and read his book also. The above trip info is for a shorter trip which starts at the north end of Lake Winnepeg and takes about 18 to 20 days.
