Work has started on the removal of the Gorge Dam on our wonderful Cuyahoga river in northeast Ohio. Tentative schedule for completion is 2026. Removing the dam will reveal, ”The Big Falls” and open up a 2 1/2 mile stretch of whitewater not seen for more than 100 years. Can’t wait to see the result!

I have a Kevlar Nomad that is my favorite boat and I’ve had since new in the ‘90’s. I paddled Hemlock‘s Peregrine at the western PA solo canoe rendezvous and if blindfolded wouldn’t have known the difference. If blindfolded I would have run into the shore or another canoe for sure... Rob

I think you're right about the application schedule- that would be the gold standard for sure. I seem to only be able to coat them about 4 or 6 times before I get distracted by something else. I do heat the mix up the first time and let the tip and grip of the paddle sit in a small pot of it-...

Robin. I’ve been using a mix of 50/50 tung oil and BLO on the cherry paddles I’ve been making and it has performed well. Nice patina, feel and water resistance. Might be an option to consider... Rob

That sort of blemish is not uncommon in cherry. I think it’s not unreasonable for the species. If it was in the shaft or grip where you make hand contact I would be more concerned but even then…it’s pretty small. The question for me is does it transfer through to the other side? I‘m guessing not...
