A History of David Yost's Solo Tripping Canoes by Charlie Wilson

hmmm, I guess based on the numbers the key take away here for the average paddler comparing possible selections in this list is get which ever one in the color you like best :)

Should you have to pay the costs of a rescue?

have had this discussion many times on boating and fishing forums over the years, especially when Spot was announced, which many from my side of the argument viewed as an idiot beacon. Same thing with the multi-million dollar circumnavigation attempts that go south invoking international SAR...

    Wanting a solo canoe

I've owned a peregrine for several years now and like it a lot. I'm probably an intermediate paddler at best and never owned or paddled any of the others on your radar, so can't speak from comparative perspective. I mostly fish and hunt with the peregrine, feather light and easy to paddle with a...

Wenonah Kevlar skin coat repair/refurbish advice?

no worries Mark, I thought the canoes in question were gelcoated and just sharing my 2 cents on epoxy repairs over polyester as it were. :) As fer RAKA UV I use it a lot, very happy with it on all points. My Northwind is UV RAKA on the deck.

Wenonah Kevlar skin coat repair/refurbish advice?

probably overkill for what you are doing but will share for information and consideration purposes. I've done quit a bit of fiberglass boat repair and restore over the years and currently have a 1977 20' and 1978 23' Seacraft boats that I'll be restoring in the coming months. Until about 10...

(Another) help me find a new solo canoe

I may be biased, but I agree with Glenn :) I'm 220ish in this photo, canoe is loaded around 300lbs, maybe a tad more, 35qt yeti full of ice/water/beer 40ish lbs of firewood, camping/cooking and fishing gear. I do have pretty good balance, but you can see the peregrine is pretty stable to be...

    Sweet Composites

I bought all the S-glass from sweet that I used on the deck of my northwind project. Prompt shipment and carefully packed fabric on a cardboard role. Would definitely do business with them in the future.

Weaponized, I prevail in my first bear encounter (pix fixed)

i see this thread was resurrected, here's a couple new BRK additions to the family... golok is shiznit, my new favorite camp chore, bushwaker and wild boar slaya', I'm sure I could use it to convince a bear he had better things to do than get slashed up by that chunk of cpm 3v awesomeness lol

excellent TR. Glad the rescue went well too.

    Headlamps

I've had this Fenix for a few years now. I'd say its a bit heavy (mostly the 18650 battery weight) or bulky for extended casual use, but still very comfortable to wear, rugged and waterproof. Always in my deck bag or pack with an extra battery or two for night travel by canoe or skiff and any...

    Wildlife Hatchet

I have 3 gransfors axes, mini, wildlife and Scandinavian. They are different tools and I like them all. The wildlife hatchet is an excellent hatchet and I use it quite a bit, used it this past weekend to process some hickory for a smoker. It cuts well and splits well. I have other hatchets like...

    NorthWind blowing in Fl...

good feedback as usual Mike, thx. Utility thwart is more noble and purposeful sounding than gadget bar, I'll have to remember that. :) I have also figured 5"-5.5" to be about the right width too. The test piece is 4" and its not quite enough, but I like what it does for sure and being able to...

    NorthWind blowing in Fl...

still tinkering around with the gadget bar, spray skirt and internal gear tie down points etc. Here's a few pic's of where I epoxied those eyelet thingy's I made above to the inside of the hull. Lots of glue surface on each, I think it will take a hammer and chisel to knock them off. I thought...
