Hi all - I am one of the mods on ADKForum and ADKHighPeaks Forum. Both were hacked and email service used to send out spam...ADKHighPeaks uses a newer version of vBulletin and is easier to fix, and we hope ADKForum will be online today or tomorrow.

I like to bring pilot crackers (probably reminds me of the c-ration hard tack crackers of my youth)...but the best part is that they fit exactly into a 15oz coffee can.

The one I use is GoreTex, so I haven't seen too much of a problem. But many bivys would indeed.

Since most of my tents are single walled, condensation is an issue...in those cases, I use a bivy over the sleeping bag to keep it dry.

Guess I'd better get cracking on finding one - right now I have a wood/fiberglass Mansfield.

My wife gave me the standard Fishell Ottertail for Christmas last year...a work of art, and great to paddle. Merry Christmas indeed - enjoy it!

I've been doing largely the same...I have an old Royalex Keewaydin Canoe with rotted out gunwales. I haven't needed too many tools so far, but the former owner used a silicone caulk on the gunwales that has been hard to remove. Still - I have most of it off and have been repairing the cold...

I may have missed it, but which Prospector is it? I'm looking at an antique 16' Carleton, but it seems to be more of a Bob's Special than a Prospector...also have a 15'6" Mansfield.

Amen to that. And I did carry that canoe down the trail to the lake, and at 60+ pounds that’s a good milestone on the knee.

Well, yesterday's test confirmed...my newly replaced knee is not yet ready for kneeling. It's too early to tell if it ever will be, but for now I had to stay on the seat.

I've never known anyone who has carried bear spray into the Adirondacks. I've had several encounters myself, and shouting or banging pans always drives them away...

Nice trip report and pictures...I've had a similar bear experience not too far from there, back in the Scout Camp Sabattis. They're persistent, for sure. And Berk sounds like a cool companion!

Gorgeous canoe... Are you local in the ADKs? I'm up in Schroon Lake, and have a Stowe Mansfield - would be nice to get out somewhere!
