What are your current solo canoes and how do you like them?

I a I agree Marten. This is my second season using an encounter and I really going to appreciate this boat. Yeah it’s big but I do tend to take a lot of gear and it’s just perfect for me. Plus it gets a lot of compliments!

Long Lake to Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks

Just finished a three day solo trip from Long Lake to Tupper Lake via the Racquet River in the Adirondacks. The first day was quite fall like what temperature is not getting out of the 50s! Beautiful! I retired. My wood and canvas can do last year (sorry Robin) to day paddling. Got tired of...

Things you've found on a canoe trip

I found a hatchet in the woods while collecting firewood. I felt bad for whoever lost it. I could just picture him setting it down while collecting wood, then looking everywhere for it and coming up empty. It’s so easy to do in the woods! Knives often “disappear” when they are set down.

It’s designed to carry a whole lotta’ gear and when that’s what I’m doing, it’s fantastic. With all the gear it sets well in the water...

    Closing out our paddling season

Encouraging news about the trash! Thank you for your efforts. Here in New York, I was able to close out the season this week with a four day deer hunt at Little Tupper Lake in the Adirondacks. We'll call it a "deer" hunt but it was more like a "sleep late, read books, sit around the wood stove...

Hello From Central New York State

I'm new and thank you for letting me join. I love your forum. Grew up in Arizona but now I'm an easterner and spend my free time paddling the Adirondacks. I have a Wenonah Minnesota III but my 1938 Peterborough that I restored last year is my favorite. I lean toward traditional gear. Paddle...
