New Spring Clamps for Stripping !!!

Ya know, I look at that picture and wonder why the hell I never thought of doing that. Plenty of room to run another strip. On my first build I kept all my joints at the stations and I've never gone away from that since. I feel like an idiot!

New Spring Clamps for Stripping !!!

Nice tutorial, Jim. Mine were smaller, 1" clamps using surgical tubing. I used them primarily for my butt joints at the stations. I've never done a build with full length strips so I quickly became King of Butt Joints ;) The smaller clamps combined with the longer dowels allowed a clamp on each...

New Spring Clamps for Stripping !!!

These do work quite well. Mine were similar but I used 1/4" hardwood dowels instead of the tubing. I cut most of them to about 2.5" or 3" in length, if I recall correctly. They're in storage right now so I can't measure them. Got 15" of snow today and its -9 outside thus the garage is on its own...

    new solo coming

That's the critter. Mine are white but it sounds like that's the only difference. I'm guessing they are made of a nylon composite of some sort. They are fairly stiff thus the tip won't conform much under normal pressure. The only flex is along the length of the tool and its minimal. Very easy to...

    new solo coming

Yup. We called them windshield bones in my body shop. Useful for so many things.

    new solo coming

Mike, I used that Plumbers Goop trick o' yours when I put kneeling pads in my Magic the first year I got it. At the beginning of the second season I decided I wanted my pads a little larger in both directions - not much, just a little. I've become pretty good at removing contact cemented...

    New boat

That would certainly be a memorable experience.

    New boat

What a sweet little boat. You'll surely enjoy that Illusion. I would love to do a lightweight strip built version of it. 3/16" strips, 4 oz wrap, 6 oz S on the football and minimalist gunwales. If I had such a boat I might never get my chores done ;)

    Reservations in the Tetons!

Agree wholeheartedly. I haven't used the eastern sites for many years but I seem to recall they are, or at least one is a group site.

    Beaver attacks on dogs

I didn't know beavers would do this but I certainly know you don't want your dog in the water with a 'coon.

Scary and it could happen in a canoe around cottage country.

That's enough to give a fellow a nightmare or two.

    Reservations in the Tetons!

Agree with Mason - definitely hit Two Ocean. And spend a sunrise in the Oxbow. The sites you couldn't get are kept open for walk-ins. All the sites on that side of the lake are good, you're going to love 'em.

How good is a ten degree bent shaft paddle? What can it do?

I paddle most often single side correction. My switch technique is, well, less than well developed ;) I'm not a skilled speed paddler in most respects. My crossing speeds are less than those I've seen posted here by others when the MPH topic comes up. My cruising/tripping speeds are fairly...

How good is a ten degree bent shaft paddle? What can it do?

I have two Wenonah Black Lite bents, bought them both on sale for a very nice price. They are 10 degree paddles and I use them in all my canoes, but a Magic is my primary ride. I paddle kneeling about 2/3 of the time, sit when I need a leg stretch and rest. The Black Lites aren't quite as light...

    What are you reading?

Just finished an off topic read that was most interesting: Feud: Hatfields, McCoys, and Social Change in Appalachia, 1860-1900, Altina L. Waller. An in depth look at the cultural and socio-economic aspects of the region and people that disputes much of what has been written about the infamous...

    Herding Carp

No shortage of big carp in my area. Its always a hoot to see them during the spawn, churning the shoreline into a frothy and noisy mass of deranged fish flesh. When I'm in the shallow warm spots of the local lakes a large spooked carp will often scare the hell outta ya as it escapes under the...

    New Administrator

Well this is great news. The site remains and does so in capable hands. A tip o' the hat to Robin for all his work and perseverance. We owe you a big one, sir.
