Transporting such a boat has got to be rather interesting.

How to Prep for a 30 Day Canoe Trip & How to Come Out Alive

Well, strangely enough, I only partake when camping in the mountains. I like a couple o' fingers while I'm enjoying a campfire or a sunset. My only civilized imbibing occurs during holiday get togethers. My friends all think me a bit odd but that's only because they know me... ;)

How to Prep for a 30 Day Canoe Trip & How to Come Out Alive

My longest trip was 22 days thus I don't qualify for the longevity award. But I have learned that extended trips require one to pack noticeably more scotch whiskey. The last several days of my longest journey saw me rationing my nightly ritual to avoid running out before the end of the trip. A...

Ooops... didn't realize it was square tubing ;)

    Lowering Seat

When cutting tubing by hand a worm drive hose clamp often makes an excellent cutting guide. I wrap the tube once with mask tape, affix the clamp and go to work. A good trick for cutting something you can't access with a power tool.

A very cool project van. I'm envious.

    Got Hitched Today, Nice Rack

I put tennis balls on the feet of my 2-step ladder. Wanted a lightweight step-up but couldn't find one with good feet. Collected four abandoned balls from the dog park and solved that little dilemma.

Tariffs may increase cost of Chinese-made outdoor gear

I'm pullin' for the Braves. I'd like to see them go the distance.

Tariffs may increase cost of Chinese-made outdoor gear

Life has its social pitfalls that must be traversed with care. I'm a Red Sox fan and a Yankees fan. That really pisses some people off to an amazing degree ;) I just like good baseball. Whomever is playing it has my respect.

Tariffs may increase cost of Chinese-made outdoor gear

No real relevance. I'm an old baseball player/fan who uses that phrase anytime I'd like to see a particular subject of discussion changed before it goes totally awry.

Sooo..... how 'bout those Red Sox?!

Swift's new Cruiser solo, 16'8", for larger paddlers

I understand ya. The Magic has an optimal max of 280 but even at my 260 load out, the boat becomes less friendly to turn and/or correct in stormy waters. My last trip out I cut my overall load to 245 and it felt better at play in the lumpy stuff. Or perhaps I just had it loaded better. The Magic...

Swift's new Cruiser solo, 16'8", for larger paddlers

I've been paddling a Magic for the last four seasons. I'm not an ultralight camper but not a heavyweight either. My gear goes about 80 lbs and I'm about 180# dressed for paddling. I've done several 8 day trips with this set up. I also paddle my Magic all wrong. High mounted Conk seat angled for...

    Review of Estwing Sportsman's Axe

There's a lot of Estwings and other economical hatchets & axes out there being used by a wide variety of folks. They don't pretend to be the greatest or most desirable tool going. Instead, they offer a fellow a reasonably priced hatchet that performs just fine within most usage scenarios. Their...

    Review of Estwing Sportsman's Axe

I'm a small forest axe fan. Just the right size for my reality and combined with a Silky saw makes a great combination.

    Making DIY Dry Bags

Got it, Mike - thanks. And the wealth of your experience is incredibly useful. Thank you for posting it. I used to have rather long hair and fifteen years ago I had to cut it dramatically during my first strip build. I was doing the inner seams on a long skinny kayak and got my 'tail' gooped...
