    See this rock? I didn't.

I have used paint mixed in with resin and it works pretty good especially when mixed with the graphite powder. I have only used black but it sure helps get a "richer" color. I find the powder by itself comes out a little dingy. Just my observations. dougd

    Another Fixer Upper

Thank you both for posting this bit of canoeing history! Gotta love it and it is good to have some grizzled old veterans from the old school canoeing days here on the board! dougd

    Another Fixer Upper

The depth is 15.5" which is deeper then my Courier at 15". And good news is it is the original gunwales as there are only one set of screw holes! Yeah! Liking that!

    Another Fixer Upper

Came from parts unknown with another hull to fix. All standard stuff, gunwales, seats, thwarts. Nothing hard but time consuming which is good these days. Only gripe is I cannot find a HIN on this hull. A MR...Explorer from the VT days so I know it's old school. The decks are large at 27"...

Peel Ply Versus Ordinary Plastic sheeting

In my early learning days before I heard of Peel Ply I used plastic wrap, Saran Wrap, and then taped it down. It worked but often left a wrinkle in the cloth. I have become a fan of Peel Ply for a lot of the reasons Alan mentioned. What I really like is the smooth finish it provides. Just my...

    Blue Algae

I scrub my boat(s) down after every use as I am not a fan of scumlines that get dried on. Here in NH we have the snot rock stuff going this year. Seems to crop up every couple years.

    Dynel Sleeve on the V

I have a MR Malecite from 92 which I bought used in 2002 and it was pretty hard to look at back then. Of course I used it hard, rode hard put away wet story, so it was finally time to bring it into the shop for a much needed rebuild. Without going into a lot of detail about certain parts of the...

    Food barrels and buckets

Not a racoon story but a more "lethal" critter in one sense! Here's my encounter: "After a long day it was off to tents. We wanted an early start to help beat any winds that can kick up. I have no clue what time it was but I awoke to a sniffing and crunching sound and then chewing! All I...

    New Rebuild Coming

Not skinny, slender to be PC! And yes it will be a much better fit after fixing it.

    New Rebuild Coming

I got wind of a MR Traveler for free that needs a lot of TLC with woodwork. After talking to the owner, a previous Adirondack Guide for many years, I going to do a 6 + hour round trip to pick it up. It's going to be a nice Fall project boat to work on and it was a real bonus to talk to an...
