I use a ridge rest pad under an air mattress. I've had air mattresses fail before, so the little extra bulk is well worth carrying.

I'd post a "found" ad if I found kayak somewhere. But I think if I lost a boat, the burden would be on me to make posts to find it, not on the guy who walked outside to see a kayak on the bank of a river.

Hahaha Good thread! I've seen more than one on CL that offer "ores" along with the canoe. You have to jump at those good deals when you see 'em!

I have a friend that swears by sleeping with a down quilt and sleeping pad. Does anyone here use one?

I have more gear than an REI store and since I try to pack light, I'll always wonder why I didn't bring that little luxury item that I just had to have last spring! : )

Woke up to a blanket of white outside this morning and a high of 35 forecasted. Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 50. You can catch me on the river for sure. Last Sunday I paddled 5 hours and saw one mink and one die hard fly fisherman, besides some ducks and geese.

A neat little feature to look for is a small glowing light on the headlamp when it's turned off. I set one down during a night Orienteering event to punch my passport and put my sweater in my backpack and couldn't find it for a loooong time.

No Title Mike, that's some cool stuff. I have been making and shooting slingshot for the last few years and just had to share your idea with my friends on a slingshot forum. It may not work so well with small forks but I know for sure they'll appreciate your ingenuity!! The stones would sure...

The Old AuSable, by Hazen Miller.... an early history of the Grayling Mich. area and the AuSable River. I read it many years ago and finding it a good read again.
