    Getting my throat slit

Good luck, GP. I've been having issues with herniated disk in my neck since September, myself. Still going to PT for it and I'm about 90% better now and hoping to avoid surgery for now.

    1921 Thompson/Hiawatha

Don't know anything about this canoe, but it popped up in my craigslist notifications: http://greenbay.craigslist.org/spo/5917771520.html Looks like a restoration project for someone.

Be careful out there - crap happens

Wow, scary stuff. I did a "Polar Plunge" once, and then had to walk about 15 minutes back to my vehicle, but I had dry clothing to put on immediately after coming out of the water. Even then, my hands and feet were numb for hours, and then painful for a while after that. I don't think I would...

    Breakfast ideas

Finally picked up some of the Trader Joe's instant coffee, and gave it a try. While it still tastes like instant, it's better than the two listed above, and would be good to mix with the pricier Starbucks VIA.

Eric Sevareid on double blades in canoe

Haven't used a double-blade yet, but I just bought one on sale to try out next season, so I won't have an opinion about it until then.

    We suck

I agree, there wasn't anything very controversial about what she said in the interview. As a non-Canadian, though, I certainly don't have a full grasp of what the canoe means as a symbol in that society.

Wollaston Lake to Goose Lake (Nunavut Border) and back

Agreed, but I'm glad it didn't end the same way! ------------------------ Really enjoyed the narrative and pictures of the journey. I'll probably never take a trip like this, or anything even close, but I'm glad I got to experience a little of it through your report.

Best canoe dog for wolf protection

I have close to zero expertise, but I'd have to guess that domestic dogs would not. I recall seeing some research on dogs and wolves a while ago, and one particular bit I recall was that domestic dogs tend to rely on help or direction from humans for problem-solving tasks. This is a brief...

“Yeah, life sucks in bear country”

I can't decide if he is the luckiest man in the world, or the unluckiest.

    Mad River 16' RX

Well not surprisingly, someone bought it already before I could out there after work. :(

    Mad River 16' RX

Anybody know which model this is from the pictures? http://greenbay.craigslist.org/spo/5800838074.html For $150 I'm not sure it matters. Really tempted to scoop this up, even though I don't need another canoe right now, and I can't paddle at the moment because of a bad disc in my neck

    What's your PFD?

Mine is this model (I think), except in red and gray: https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/71go7AuyhiL._SL1500_.jpg Picked it up for $16 a couple of years ago through the REI outlet. It's light, and doesn't restrict my arm movements. I do wish it had some pockets or d-rings, but...

    Potable frozen water containers?

I have a couple of square(ish) 1L bottles that used to hold Pedialyte, which my kid always refused to drink when she was sick. The plastic is much thicker than a 2L soda bottle, though I also use some of those. Also, half gallon bottles of cranberry juice (at least some brands) have flattened...

Removing odor from a blue barrel

That reminds me ... I also have about 20 growlers in the basement that I need to find another use for.

    Sylvania or Craig Lake SP?

I'm going to wait until Wednesday to see how I'm feeling, but if I don't end up going next weekend, I'll definitely be trying to find time October to get out one last time this season. I'd actually prefer to go more often in the fall (fewer people and bugs), but it's a lot harder to get away...
