    A lightweight "stand-up-able" solo canoe?

How has this canoe paddled standing up?

    A lightweight "stand-up-able" solo canoe?

Can you do this while it's empty or loaded? I built a raven from green Valley last season but have found it tender so took my old OT Appalachian on the Allagash. That's a canoe I can stand in.

anyone ever make their own removable yoke?

This being the case, I might be better served to make my solid yoke better. I also like the hinge idea.

anyone ever make their own removable yoke?

Johnny 5, do you have any pictures of your Y-yoke in action? I just took my Raven solo out yesterday using a cobbled together clamp on yoke but I couldn't easily get it back in the correct position to carry the canoe home. I know I can fix that with better measuring but the Y-yoke would...

West Branch Penobscot Water Levels: Sept. 12, 2018 vs. Sept. 13, 2019 vs. June 2021

We went in July and a family wrapped (and broke) one of their canoes on the second set of rapids in Chase. I believe it was an old fiberglass canoe. We had about 800 cfs in Chase and 380 cfs for the rest of the trip. I used my plastic Appalachian and left a fair amount of red on the rocks.

    Thus build the Raven, evermore

I just measured my raven, 184.3 inches and the front of the seat is at 100 inches. My seat is 12 inches deep. I did notice an improvement in handling when I slide my butt to the very back of the seat. Part of my thought that I'm too far forward is due to the fact that the OT Appalachian is...

    Thus build the Raven, evermore

Thanks Moose (more appropriate? :D) and Alan. Moose, I'm going to measure my hull from the front as well to see how my position compares to yours. Alan, your description of how to find the trim makes a lot of sense. In the short paddle I did last week, I felt that the stern was not...

    Thus build the Raven, evermore

Thanks Skinny! Those dimensions make sense. Mem had his seat front 9" from the center of balance but he had mentioned that 6" might have been better. Six inches from center of balance is too far forward. My feet are 11.5-12 so I'm making sure I have enough space. I may have made my Conk...

    Thus build the Raven, evermore

I believe you told me that before but I transposed the 9 inches and put the front of the seat 6" from the center of balance. I also put the seat down 3"from the top of the gunwales. This leaves about 10" under the seat for my size 11.5 feet. I knew that I'd have a learning curve switching...

    Thus build the Raven, evermore

Ice out was two weeks early so I had to get my butt in gear! Although the raven isn't totally finished, I put her in the water this afternoon. she's so much smaller than my OT Appalachian but I'm starting to get used to her. I may need to drop the seat and possibly move it back.

Alsg, I Looked in the box of w/c restoration supplies and I have a can of dolfinite. I need to check my basement, maybe I have a completed canoe that I forgot about? Mem, thanks for the thoughts about not bothering with a bedding compound. That will save time;). Thanks for the link. Have...

    Thus build the Raven, evermore

Since I have to wait for more epoxy to arrive from Raka I decided to tackle dry fitting the gunwales. I'm screwing them together this time and I've run into a bit of a dilemma. Even after sanding the hull smooth and sanding the inside surfaces of the gunwales there are a few places where the...
