    Cree River Summer 2023

Paddling Pitt, somebody on this forum posted a video of a Maine guide paddling with long, smooth strokes. i’m not sure how else to describe it. I just know that in recent times people seem to be using shorter strokes, with the 90 degree angle to the canoe. Glenn, Cree River is in northern...

    Cree River Summer 2023

(Mason, interesting indeed that you were in Stony Rapids. I hope your trip was a good one.) Cree River Part 3. Head down, I pondered my options. I thought I should continue because I hadn't paddled all that far. My mind tries to consider all options and I become aware my mind is muddled. I...

    Cree River Summer 2023

Cree River Part 2 As the morning progressed, the sky began to clear. Patches of blue appeared between skittering clouds. I wandered around the area. There are jack pines running up the hill with a ground cover of reindeer lichen. Ripe blueberries abound. And they a large and succulent. I can...

    Cree River Summer 2023

Cree River flows north out of Cree Lake to Black Lake. Paddling here was a constant surprise. Previously my canoe tripping has been done in Quebec. The rivers I had to fly in to some 30 years ago, now have roads and houses on them. I wanted to find a less crowded locale. Being 69, I also wanted...

    HELP!

OK. Somebody here said to go back to the forum, type in the title of the topic again and see what happens, and that WORKED!!! Thank you. I am writing it in segments and was only trying to put up the first week. I type it out in Evernote which saves automatically sparing me that particular...

    HELP!

I entered a very large segment of a trip report with pictures and it has now disappeared. This was about a week's worth of work. I don't suppose there is any way of getting it back. Is there anyway to SAVE text and pics when inserting a long trip report before posting?

    Four Canoe Tripping Books

Very cool that you met Walter Port. The canoe trip was originally his idea. I wondered what happened to him later in life. He gave up a scholarship to University of Chicago I think it was in order to complete the canoe trip.

    Four Canoe Tripping Books

Note: I wrote the basic draft and then gave it to Chat GPT. I removed some of the really florid stuff and a sentence where Chat GPT says I read these books while windbound on a serene lake. :) Embarking on my recent canoe adventure, I made sure to pack a selection of books. Given my penchant...

    Wildfires in Canada!

I just got back, well actually in the process of driving back, from northern Saskatchewan. My flight into Cree Lake was delayed a day due to heavy smoke from raging fires in the Northwest Territories. There was also a fire near southern Cree Lake. Some of the days on a three week trip were smoky.

    Flipping Good

I’m familiar with neuropathy too. Hang in there. It can improve. No sense in worrying about it before it happens. You can paddle a canoe with only one arm. I’ve seen it. Losing the use of an arm or hand can happen to anyone in the back country. Just like heart attacks, strokes, etc. what...

    Breaking up Freeze-dried Packages

When Brad was preparing for a backpacking trip he learned some ziplocks will take boiling water. Thanks for all the comments. Recped, I suspect you burn more calories than I do. I don’t paddle as hard as I used to.
