When tripping I rarely have a fire unless it is needed for warmth or to dry things out. I cook on a Trangia, but when solo I’ll also eat some meals cold. I bring a twig stove for back up. All that said, I hope campfires aren’t totally banned, for all the good reasons already mentioned.

Those are two very different kinds of whitewater. The kid is primarily handling big waves with a lot of back paddle. The first paddler can use more forward paddle and has to worry about dodging all the obstacles. I personally couldn’t even dream of either run.
