    Quality Fishing Knife

Go to Ragnar’s Ragweed Forge on the web and buy either a Helle or Mora filet blade. Add a handle that means something to you. Ask Mem how he likes his. if you still want a pricier fish knife, I have a Randall Salt 7” that is all around handy.

    Optics for the ageing eyes

I bought a pair of Steiner 9x40 “Safari” binoculars 21 years ago for an Africa trip and have never regretted the price, which was $200 back then. Yes, they are full size but a great FOV and rubber armored waterproof tough. I just had them out on a duck hunt off Hatteras last month; rain, salt...

    GStove opinions?

Hey mom! How are you and the family doing? Hope all is well. I was planning to take the new pup up there for grouse this fall, but you got the place locked down! I am getting a Luxe brand Megahorn Tipi made with silver impregnated 68D tafetta. It’s a hexagonal with 6’ panels and a 7’ peak...

    GStove opinions?

I just got a deal on a smaller hot tent and I was looking at the GStove from Norway. Anyone here have any experience with this stove? My Four Dogs stove would be a bit much, I think.

    Been a while...

Well, this has been an interesting year. I have been gone from the board for almost a year, it seems! living in a small mountain town in Colorado, it was easy to social distance and still get out to hike and paddle a bit. I bought a used Mad River Royalex tandem with some rocker and set up for...

    Stir Crazy?

Here on the Front Range, weather has been sunny and warm 50s for the last few weeks. With the exception of a 10” snow that melted quick. The ice is beginning to open on Manitou, and we go out every day to run the dog and hike a few miles. Geese, mallard and Great Blue Herons are back. Have...

Personal hygiene on extended trips (The Deodorant Debate)

I keep a 35mm film can with baking soda to brush teeth and scour a pan. “Crazy” Dr. Bronner’s Peppermint liquid soap will clean you and help keep bugs away. Gotta clean the undercarriage, folks! A small piece of Dial is with the cook gear to wash hands first. For me, wet wipes replaced TP...

    Gloom and Doom

OP - you have got some good advice here in getting outside, being grateful and positive, spending time with the dog. i lived just outside of Chicago for 6&1/2 years in the 1990s and another 14 years beginning in 2005. It’s the king of gloomy weather that makes a farm wife sharpen a butcher...

Poll: How old were you when you got YOUR OWN first canoe (and what was it)?

Wow! Am I the only one!!?? OK, I’ll take the walk of shame...in 1978 We moved to Connecticut and I was able to get my drivers license that year at 16. This was big stuff for a NY City boy. I bought a 15 Coleman tandem in “Colorado Red” and proceeded to abuse that beast on local rivers...

Stashing a canoe in the YNP area.

Gamma, Thanks for the kind words. It's fine, I'm a big boy and I honestly hadn't considered a lot of the points others brought up. I will figure it out or just drag it along with my OT Pack.

Stashing a canoe in the YNP area.

OK...….Thanks for the responses. I guess with my limited experience in coming across stashed canoes, I always say it as quaint and harmless. I wouldn't want to be SELFISH or CRIMINAL.... I guess I will look for a place to stash it with someone who lives out that way. Thanks for those who gave...
