    Load Stop Project

arrived in WI ok. Stops did the trick. I got over 1 mpg better mileage that with the canoe lashed on the outside of the rack. These rails are too big for Yakima or Thule products.

    Load Stop Project

Well we’ve got a prototype. Used some plastic door moulding I had in the barn. Ready to road test tomorrow. Thanks for the ideas.

    Load Stop Project

That’s a great idea! I’m actually going to try that. I have plenty of corner braces, was looking for a non-metallic face for the stop. I can grind a flat side to go against the bar. Now, where do hockey pucks come from? 🤔

    Load Stop Project

Like a 2x2? I’m liking that idea, maybe angled on the bumper end. Hmmm.

    Load Stop Project

I probably wouldn’t select these gunnels for a new canoe. I’ve got a fraction of the cost of the only mfr’d stops that fit this rail. Retired people get cost conscious.

RACKS - Free to Good Home

Sorry, a dude just picked them up yesterday.

    Load Stop Project

My trailer needs some load stops to center the entire canoe over the box. Otherwise, the only way to keep the canoe in place is to strap it near the edge. I’m basically looking for a hack. After cruising the local hardware stores, have some ideas, but nothing clean and easily adjustable...

    100K - Shocks and a new Rack

With the price of vehicles, gotta make my travel car last. New struts and a new roof rack are necessary. This rack should be quieter. My buggy just got to 100K, still towing well (knocking on wood). My former roof rack and a nice Yakima hitch goalpost roof rack are free to anyone wanting them.

Personal hygiene on extended trips (The Deodorant Debate)

Let us know how the alcohol on the nether regions works out.

    Bolster Threaded Inserts

After my recent encounter with gravity induced loosening of my yoke mounts, I’m wondering how I can augment my seat insert mounts. I’ve been traveling with the Backsaver and pad attached. Speeds things up at the put-in. Always done it. My idea: Strategic injection of Gflex with the canoe...

Personal hygiene on extended trips (The Deodorant Debate)

People who bathe or wash clothes should do it well away from lakes or streams. Soaping up your clothes on your body and jumping into a lake is simply not good for anything.

Personal hygiene on extended trips (The Deodorant Debate)

People get used to their own stench and that of their family. I think of Farley Mowat’s description of the odor in an igloo during the lean months up nort, when folks peel their inner anorak. My wife and daughter and me always gauged our stink by the turning heads in the diner when we got back...

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

One bright side to this is I can make a similar doohickey to tighten the loose anchor on me seat. I took the seat off to tighten the webbing and noticed a loose anchor there too. I guess it’s also just a mechanical connection.

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

I flip my other canoes with an assist from the clamp on detachable yoke all the time. Never had an issue. Done it with this homemade screw on yoke too, never thought about it. Bouncing on the road is a lot more stress, when I think about it. I really envisioned the anchors being lavishly...

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

I never would have expected that a yoke is not meant to assist in flipping up the canoe. Nor would I have thought expedition Kevlar is not meant for expeditions. As a matter of public policy, why would paddlecraft ownership be discouraged by taxes and fees? They don’t spew fuel into lakes and...

Swift Osprey (aluminum gunwales) portage options

Any pictures of the gunwales? My detachable yoke from NS is my favorite. If it will work, I’d recommend that one.

New Issue with my Swift portage yoke

The number convention Swift used in 2019 is not compliant to the convention used in many states. Too many numbers, manufactured date not represented correctly in the HIN. Swift has changed now but many older boats must be reissued a plate to register in the states where registration is...

Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

Not Ohio. No natural lakes, overpopulated, streams are sewers and reservoirs are cesspools. Way too many septic systems around every state park.
