It was known as the monster skillet with my group. The final breakfast made in the monster skillet included all remaining food - we had some unique meals.

Alders, not really a tree but I sawed thousands down clearing portages in the Wabakimi area over 12 years with the Wabakimi Project.

Mine is the Tamarack in the fall - the last tree to retain its wonderful dull yellow foliage in an otherwise drab forest.

I will be up there starting 2 wks from today. After about 14 yrs of trips in the area totaling 25-26 wks I have only seen 1 bear in the bush and it was across a bay and never detected us. Otherwise, the vast majority of wildlife spotted has been on Hwy 527 north from TB to Armstrong.

The only time I found keels to be really useful was when I car topped 3 canoes with the bottom 2 being Grummans. The third canoe rested on top of the Grummans on 2x4’s notched to fit over the keels. This made for a secure rack. Too bad I probably way over stressed the transmission in my Dodge...

Go with Alan’s suggestion, get a paddle and start using it. You will add more paddles as you continue paddling, experience will help learn what you prefer. And eventually you’ll be like many of the rest of us, wondering why you have so many different paddles.

I have used old sockets heated with a torch to melt holes in the straps which then keeps them from fraying.
